The CW Casts Supernatural Spinoff

The CW announced two leading actors for their potential Supernatural spinoff, Tribes.  Nathaniel Buzolic and Lucien Laviscount will first appear in the April 29th episode of Supernatural, which will serve as a backdoor pilot if the series gets picked up.

Nathaniel Buzolic is best known for his role as Kol Mikaelson on The Vampire Diaries.  Unfortunately, Kol met his demise before The Originals spun off onto their own show but lucky for Buzolic the CW likes to keep their actors in the family!  His character on Tribes is described as a shape shifter who is hiding his true identity and living as a human in order to protect himself from monster hunters in Chicago.

Lucien Laviscount, a British actor relatively unknown in the States, will star as Ennis Roth, a human whose fiancée is killed in the crossfire of a monster war.  This personal tragedy turns the police academy student into a hunter himself as he discovers the truth of the mafia-like monsters in control of the city.

It could just be me, but the premise sounds a little too familiar to The Originals.  Sure, these monsters aren’t vampires, witches, and werewolves, but the fight for control over a city between supernatural species is definitely similar.

What do you think?  Do you hope this gets picked up to series, or is it too soon to make that call?
