Supernatural Midseason Report Card: How Does Season 6 Measure Up?

The End of the Series

Clarissa: In the end - the end of the series - I want the Buffy ending, where they’ve defeated the big evil and there’s the question of “what do we do next?” But there’s the understanding that Sam and Dean are together and they’ll be fighting together until they die. Maybe it's not a great life, but Bobby still hunts while he’s older. If one of the brothers died, I don’t really think the other would be able to go on.  Dean existed after Sam went to Hell, but even he admitted that he wasn't really living.

Tamara: In terms of an ending, I will accept them on the road hunting. I want us to see them together in the final scene. It would be sad, but I would accept both of them dying at the same time, as long as it was together. Series endings sometimes have a tendency to screw up the world you’ve come to love. So what was I doing all this time getting invested in the characters for all these years and then you screw it up? I’ve bought into these guys and this relationship, they’re the foundation of this show, and Supernatural sold me on their relationship really well. You can’t do that and slap me in the face with one of them dying and the other going on. If it had ended last season with Sam jumping into the hole and being down in Hell forever, I would have been so angry. That punishment absolutely would not have fit the crime.

Clarissa: I told you that I asked that about the ending at Comic Con, and they had indicated that if season 5 had been the final season, it could have ended like that. I would have been seriously angry too.  But mostly sad. So I’m thrilled that season 5 wasn’t the last season and they brought Sam back. Now we just need to figure out a way to keep him and Dean alive.

So there you have it, folks, our thoughts on season 6.  Both Tamara and I are looking forward to what happens next and hoping that we'll be able to wrap our brains around the various pieces of the season-long arc.  What do you think?

Love this guys and I agree with just about all of it. I want the brother's relationship to reach a more balanced place. I don't think they will ever been the same, they have been through too much and of course they are also older now, but they obviously love each other above everyone and everything else and we know from their sojurn in Heaven that they are soul mates, so having them together again, being brothers, for me should be a priority for the remainder of this season, because as you say, it is the essence of the show and it's what we all connected with and got us to this point. I think there has to be more to the Crowley thing. That death was so quick and unexpected and quite frankly for me, not very satisfying as I wanted one of the boys to do away with Crowley, I think they deserved to take him out. Somewhere inside me, where I have become paranoid and scepticle of deaths on Supernatural, I feel we will see Crowley again. Samuel, I believe will somehow try to redeem himself but that would be a tough sell for both the brothers and the viewer, but he has to really, there's more to Samuel's story surely than just bringing back his dead daughter which seems cruel, especially if she is in Heaven. I assumed she was in Purgatory and that was the tie in? Maybe? As for Sam and Dean, no more evil Sam thanks, been there and done that. I admit soulless Sam grew on me, he was very dry and pretty darn hot, but I tired of the lack of connection between the brothers. He will suffer something from his time in Hell, he has too, no Winchester gets off easy, but I am hoping they put the ‘Sam is always doing the wrong thing making the wrong choice and going evil’ thing behind them, he's been through enough, leave him be! Dean, admittedly I am biassed here, but I've love him this season, his smarts are showing, his heart as always is on his sleeve, he's strong and brave and caring and everything I adore about his character. I trust him completely to make good choices always. I love how much he loves Sam. And as for the end, I'm with you, they either both live, driving off in the Impala, AC/DC blarring, to fight another day, or they go down together, as the Js always say, Butch and Sundance style. It would KILL me and probably make it very difficult for me to go back and merrily rewatch earlier episodes knowing that they are no longer out there, but one can't live without the other pure and simple, they don't function well without the other one, so they live together or they die together, anything else would destroy everything this show has built.
I’m really enjoying the mystery of season 6 and trying to nut out where on earth it’s all going. Thanks for this great write up guys, really enjoyed it!

what do you guys think of Cas? What will happen in the heaven story line? Also, my question is if God brought Cas back why didn't he bring back Gabriel who ended up fighting for God's creation, humanity at the tail end of season 5.

Great article, guys – you captured the views of most of the fans out there! :) Perfectly put!

Just wanted to point out that Sam already said he remembers everything that happened to him in Hell. Unless he was lying to Dean about that, getting his soul back shouldn’t be nearly as traumatizing as all the characters seem to think. (jmo obviously)
