Supernatural 8.05 Teasers: Dean Lends Benny a Hand

Clarissa October 10, 2012 19

Supernatural Benny seems here to stay, Supernatural fans, and it looks like Dean is going to go to great lengths to help him out in an upcoming episode.

The October 31st episode, titled “Blood Brothers,” is written by fan favorite Ben Edlund and directed by Guy Bee.  According to The CW, the episode finds Dean separating from Sam to help Benny out when he calls:  “After Benny (Ty Olsson) gets brutally beat up by some vampires, he calls Dean (Jensen Ackles) for help. Dean abruptly packs up and tells a confused Sam (Jared Padalecki) that he’s taking a “personal day.” Benny confesses that he’s going after his Maker (guest star Patrick Stafford) so Dean offers to help, flashing back on the many times Benny helped him and Castiel (Misha Collins) in Purgatory. Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) uses his solo time to reflect on the life he left behind with Amelia (guest star Liane Balaban). However, when things go bad for Dean and Benny, Dean calls Sam for help, which makes everything very complicated.”

From the sounds of that last sentence, this may be the first meeting between Sam and Benny.  Given the Winchesters’ history with mysterious – and demonic/monstrous – allies, how thrilled do you think Sam is going to be about Benny’s place in Dean’s life?

Supernatural airs on Wedneday nights at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.  For more spoilers, reviews, photos and sneak peeks for season 8, check out our Supernatural page.

Considering Sam’s history of picking monsters over Dean, eg Ruby, Amy to name a few, Sam better not even say anything unless he wants to come off as a bigger hypocrite than he already does. If Sam is smart, he will just not say anything.

This episode started sounding great. But now Dean and Benny, who survived purgatory without Sam’s help now need Sam’s help? Really show? God, how did Dean and Benny ever survive without SuperSam to save the day? What a disappointment Carver will be if he follows the same steps as Kripke and Gamble and gives Dean nothing while once again giving Sam everything.

And to think, I was so looking forward to the Dean and Benny part. Too bad it’s spoiled now.

Sam has grown since Season 4 and learned from his mistakes (his coming clean to Dean about Amy, his honesty about what he was doing last year, etc.) but let’s keep beating that dead horse, shall we?

If Sam is smart, he won’t keep his mouth shut, he’ll remind Dean that he knows from personally experience trusting the monsters never ends well.

  • Denny

Surving Purgatory and then this, beat up by a couple of vampires needing Sam’s help.
Lame, but Dean and Benny part sounds amazing!

  • Crowley

Why would Dean call Sam? How can Dean not be questioning whether or not Sam would even show up?

  • Anne

Yeah, I’m with you, Silver. Sam’s given the benefit of a doubt to other monsters so it would absolutely make sense for him to extend the same courtesy to the one who helped his brother.

And I agree- I don’t get how these two hardcore badasses survived God’s Armpit but now can’t handle one case without Sam’s help. Oh well, hopefully Sam is answering his phone these days.

  • Melanie

Thank goodness they call Sam, because I have no interest in his life with Amelia. Behead some vampires, Sam! Sounds OK to me.

    • anotherlucy

Yay, Sam to the rescue. At least they give Sam something to do. I’m interested in his relationship with Amelia.

  • Tom

You guys think Sam should keep his mouth shut, but after seven years of hunting, actually more, Sam knows trusting Ruby was a bad idea, and Dean always tells him to kill the monster, kill the monster And not trust them! I know you’re all Dean fans so whatever Dean does is fine and whatever Sam does is bad, you guys always complain, I’m not a Sam fan, I’m a Supernatural fan, and I think Sam shouldn’t be pissed, but I won’t mind if he warns Dean about Benny. I mean, Dean trusting a monster!! It doesn’t happen every day!

    • anotherlucy

Agreed. But hey, Sam should just keep quiet according to the Dean fans and let Dean hang himself. Then when Benny is about to drain Dean’s blood dry, Sam will just shrug and go ‘I didn’t want to say anything.’

      • robocop

So kind of like he did with Dean in purgatory?

      • Crowley

Maybe the show could actually have a shocking twist and not go down the road of Sam screws up, so therefore Dean must screw up too but only it has to be worse. Let Benny truly have Dean’s back and be an ally and friend. It would be great to see Dean have one person in his life who doesn’t betray him.

Hopefully if Benny is bad than Dean will get his Fallen Idol moment where he gets to tell Sam that part of the reason he went with Benny was to get away from Sam because he was never sure if Sam would have his back, whereas Benny did.

        • anotherlucy

The shocking twist I want is Sam doesn’t screw up and he is right this time and Dean is wrong. This will be shocking to me.

  • Tom

Anne, fighting in Purgatory makes them strong, not invincible…

  • Lani

Tom, Sam trusted Amy last season, apparently he forgot the lesson at some point.

From the spoiler the need for Sam to rush in and save the day (assuming he answers the phone) is ridiculous and looks like weak writing to make Sam either super important and awesome, or to make him do something. Yay… the same old bad habit that was weak in past seasons.

  • Tom

Lani, Amy was killing people cause she was desperate, her son was dying! Besides, she killed her mother to save Sam, and the most important thing is that Sam didn’t trusted her over Dean, I mean, Sam told Dean everything about her, he didn’t hide anything like he did on season 4 with Ruby. So its different! Don’t you think Sam learned his lesson for REAL, after killing Dean’s daughter?! He killed the monster! Like Dean told him! Would you all please stop complaining, and watch the show!? Its just a show! And this season is way cooler than previous seasons, its actually kinda of my favorite! So if you think the writing is weak, its your opinion, let people who truly love the show enjoy it!

  • Phil

She was killing people period, murder, death; and one would have to trust a murder when she said it was for her son. That’s it, and killing your own mother for someone you just met doesn’t make someone a good person, it makes them someone with limited morals and loyalty. Sam just abandoned Dean and didn’t tell him until confronted and forced to, so yes he did hide something.

Maybe you should stop twisting things to justify things and just watch the show.

  • Tom

    Another Dean fan… -_____-
Sam could’ve lie, like he did on season 4, he could’ve say he was working on another job…genius..I don’t twist things. Now I know you won’t give a CRAP if somebody kills his mother to save you…

  • Lani

    Good job invalidating yourself.

  • amarillo

Why don’t the whole Sam-hating bunch of you go back to the “To Hell and Back” forums. They’d welcome you there.
