Supernatural Set Visit: Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki Talk Season 7

Recently, I was part of a group of bloggers who descended on a Supernatural location shoot to catch a few minutes with the stars of the show: Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. The boys shared a few tidbits about what's in store for their characters, what they like about season 7 and whether or not we'll see Castiel again.

Thanks to EW, we know that episode 7.08, which is almost finished filming in Vancouver, will contain a wedding. We asked if they could share exactly who was going to be getting married, but the boys were mum on any hints. However, Jared did say, 'These characters have been going through a lot. We've seen Dean in relationships and Sam in relationships. And now it kind of comes out of the blue, but there will be a character who gets married and it is kind of confusing to the other character, but it all spells itself out pretty quickly.'Jared said that he loves the full original title for the episode ('Season 7, Time for a Wedding") and hopes they keep it. But when he first read about the episode he thought 'Who's getting married? And then I read it and thought 'what?!''

There's a lot of talk as well that season 7 will be 'gooey and messy'. Jensen joked 'it makes the wedding interesting'. Jared also reiterated how thrilled he is that the first three episode episodes of the new season of Supernatural were scary. Like they had reverted back 'to the horror movie genre', Jensen said.

Fortunately, the brothers'relationship is once again solid. Jared pointed out that Sam and Dean had started out so alone on the show. Originally even Dean had no one and came to get Sam at university, but along the way they found a lot of help. Jensen reiterated that the writers will 'strip away some of the guys'comforts'. They're 'getting back to that early form of Supernatural', he said. Back to the reasons 'we fell in love with the show in the beginning'. Jared talked about how stories of the boys hunting alone had ended up spawning things like demons, the whole Ruby arc and everything about the angels. Now the show is saying 'Let's put them back on their own [again] and see what happens this time'. But don't thing that 'back to basics'means we're going to lose character development. Jared said that the characters have grown over the last six years and we won't be losing any of that, but having the boys with fewer allies to rely on allows the show to give them 'a cleaner slate to catapult other stories'.

For the next few episodes, the boys are definitely working together to solve their problems. Without other support, Jared said 'we're back to relying on each other'. But we know they're going to be encountering problems. The authorities will start to get on their tails, so this will mean some problems with the boys staying in the same place at the same time. Jared said ''they're on to us, so we kind of have to split up, but obviously keep each other as partners'.

As for the Winchesters'struggles - of which there are always many - Jared said that Sam will still be dealing with 'his demons', while Jensen joked 'Dean is still pissed off about being short'. But seriously, Dean will have to keep a very close eye on his brother because of Sam's current problems.

Jensen explained that Dean's storyline will be focusing on a lot of what he's been going through over the past six years: his inner struggle. He constantly has to deal with 'the guilt, the lifestyle in general and the fact that he feels like he might let his brother down and he just can't protect people like he used to be able to. It's like the 'weight of the world'kind of thing'. Throw the leviathans into the mix and Dean is wracked with guilt: 'He feels responsible that he couldn't get to Cas in time to save him. There's a lot of guilt, which plays into the whole trial thing [in episode 4]'.

'Sam finds himself once again on awkward footing'Jared said. 'He's dealing with the Hell wall and all of his memories and seeing Lucifer. It's unfortunate because Sam and Dean have always been there for each other, but this is a kind of burden for Sam to bear alone. He's not on the kind of solid footing where he can even accept help from his brother yet. It leaves a void for Dean because usually he's saying 'well, [my purpose is] taking care of my brother', but now he's going wacky on me'. But at least they want to take care of each other again.'

As for Castiel's fate, Jared and Jensen reiterated what we all know. Even if you see a body on Supernatural, it doesn't mean that character is gone, and we certainly haven't seen Cas'dead body. Jensen said 'they're always going to leave everything open. And even if they've shut the door, as much as they can visually, that door can always be kicked back open'.

Jared said that Misha is excited to remain a part of the show however he can and the writers and fans in particular have grown to love him. 'He's always welcome back and I'm sure it's not the last we've seen of him'.

Don't forget that a new episode of Supernatural will be airing this week on October 7. Check out a few previews for the episode, including photos, a trailer and a sneak peek.

Yup, just kick that door open at the perfect moment, writers. :) Until then, I'll be enjoying my other two boys.

  2. Asia says:

So nothing new for Dean then. Not interested, thanks.

  3. Anna says:

I'm optimistic. I love what I read so far.

A season just like season 1, the one we all fell in love with?

With no Castiel, no Bobby and just Sam and Dean?

Seriously it would make me so happy.

  4. Sandi says:

I was hoping that Dean would have his own storyline, separate from Sam's. What about him being marked by the Fae? Why couldn't he be influenced by what he thinks is Michael, from the Pit? And why did Death take such an interest in him? I'm getting a little tired of Dean just reacting to whatever's going on around him. I am thrilled to death that Castiel has finally bit the dust, and I really hope he doesn't come back. He ruined the show and the fanfic for me. I'm glad it's just Bobby, Sam and Dean again.

Why couldn't Dean be influenced by what he thinks is Michael from the pit? Well, he wasn't in the pit with Michael. Michael never used him as his meat suite. So they don't have the same connection that Sam has with Lucifer. He already has his own memories from Hell.

Really? If fanfiction is your concern, how can a character that in the story has no sexual relationship with Dean and/or Sam (like Sam and Dean haven't in canon, but only in slash fic) ruin the show for you?

Really, a fan should not judge a character based on his masturbatory fantasies, dear Sandi.

Maybe, if you find a real man or woman you could enjoy the show in a healthy way.

    Bye

When I read that season 7 will let the bond of Sam and Dean strong again, I feel very happy, because that kind of relationship make me love supernatural, I love season 1, 2, 3 and 5, season 4 make me a rather sad, I haven’t seen season 6, but I know the story from wiki, I have to save money to buy the dvd, ooh… I feel unpatient to buy that dvd… Hope I can meet with Sam and Dean, I mean Jared and Jensen
