Supernatural Sneak Peek: Cas Confirms the Return of Sam's Soul

Uh-oh.  When we last left the Winchesters, Death had managed to put Sam's soul back into his body, along with the warning that Sam shouldn't go poking at the wall he constructed to keep his memories of Hell from driving him insane.

Supernatural returns with an all new episode on January 28 (finally!).  We posted a promo for the episode on Friday night (watch it here) and now The CW has released a sneak peek for the upcoming January 28 episode.

It looks like this scene takes place near the beginning of the episode.  Dean has obviously called Cas in to confirm the return of Sam's soul.  But Castiel is not pleased about Dean getting Sam's soul put back into his body.  After all, Cas warned him how damaged Sam's soul had become, locked in the cage with Michael and Lucifer.  He seems convinced that this is a very bad idea, whether Death constructed his wall or not.  But I think Dean has a point.  What was he supposed to do?  Let soulless Sam continue to run around and be a danger to others?  Or even let Sam's soul continue to suffer in Hell for all eternity?

We know that the brothers will get back to investigating cases like old times, so it's clear that Sam will be okay for a while.  But I suspect the wall will start coming down as the season progresses and the big hurdle for the season might very well be having to find a permanent sure for Sam.

Check out the sneak peek below, then go take a look at promo photos for the episode.  And if you're interested in spoilers, read an article we posted earlier today about the return of some old cast members.

DEATH RETURNS FOR A MEETING WITH DEAN — Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Bobby (Jim Beaver) anxiously wait for Sam (Jared Padalecki) to wake up to see if Death (guest star Julian Richings) was able to restore his soul without causing Sam to lose his mind. Meanwhile, Dean and Bobby investigate a disappearance of virgins and discover dragons are behind the kidnappings. Bobby sends Dean to a doctor who owns the only weapon in the world that can slay a dragon, but Dean must prove himself worthy enough to take it. Phil Sgriccia directed the episode written by Adam Glass
