Supernatural Spoilers - The Campbell Family & Season 6

Every day I wait patiently for a new Supernatural promo for season 6, or even for new episode photos.  We've got them for 90210 and The Vampire Diaries, but still none for Supernatural.  It makes me sad.  We have, however, posted some cool on-set photos (here and here) and now the CW has revealed a bit more information about the Campbell family in season 6.

By now, everyone's pretty aware that Mary Winchester's family, the Campbells, will be playing a role in season 6 of the show.  We know Mitch Pileggi will be returning as the boys' grandfather (though we don't know HOW, considering he's dead), and we've also heard rumors that we'll be seeing a character named Christian who is related to the boys (maybe a cousin?).  The question is how we'll meet the Campbells.  The CW has put out a longer description of season 6 and it looks like Sam will be the one to introduce his brother to their extended family:

It’s a year later [after the Michael-Lucifer showdown].  And while time can’t actually heal all wounds, it can sometimes dull the pain.  Dean finds himself in one of the strangest situations he’s ever seen (and he’s seen strange): suburbia.  Wearing very different hates: a civilian; a construction worker; a good boyfriend to Lisa; a surrogate father to her son Ben.  That is, until his past inevitably catches up to him – in the form of Sam, mysteriously freed from his cage in hell.  And Sam needs his brother to rejoin the fight, because a new threat is rising in the dark corners and backwoods of America.  Not demons or angels this time, but creatures.  Vampires.  Werewolves.  Djinn.  And a thousand other freaks.  They’re growing in numbers.  Breaking old patterns.  And leaving a very think and bloody trail in their wake.

And Sam isn’t alone.  He introduces Dean to a world – a family – he never even knew existed: the Campbells, his mother’s family, led by none other than their Grandfather Samuel (Mitch Pileggi).  They’re a line of hunters that stretches back to the country’s gory start – they were hacking heads off vampires on the Mayflower.  And they want Sam and Dean to carry on the family tradition.

Though torn between his obligation to his blood and to his surrogate family, Dean is still a gunfighter at heart; and so of course he again picks up his guns.  Hitting the road with Sam.  No more bibles, no more prophecies; just a lot of hunting and killing.  That is, until the brothers realize that nothing is what it seems – not with the rising tide of carnivorous creatures, and certainly not with each other.

OK, so we have more information about season 6 that confirms much of what we knew - it will be focused on demons and other creatures.  Now we know that at some point during his year of living alone, Sam will have come across the Campbells and will go on to introduce them to Dean.  I still have absolutely no clue how Grandpa Samuel fits in, but this summary kind of makes it seem like he'll be alive in the boys' time.  Not sure how the writers plan on pulling that off, but could it have something to do with the Yellow Eyed Demon (who killed Grandpa and who we knew we will be seeing again)?  I'm not sure.

I hate that last sentence about nothing is what it seems between the boys.  Normally I would assume that the statement was alluding to the fact that maybe Sam isn't what he seems, but Jared told us in the Comic Con press room (see videos here) that Sam was Sam.  Is there something more we don't know?  Just don't make the brothers fight each other again.  I hate it when that happens and I almost feel like it rots away at the core of the show.

Now I'm back to waiting for a new trailer or photos...

  2. I agree, writers nobody wants to see Sam and Dean fall out again, Winchesters against the world please, stop making them fall out. I'm yet to meet one person who likes that.

  3. Claudia says:

I wanna see the Winchesters fall out again. Them getting along all season is more than boring.

  4. Claudia says:

I like it. Besides the way things were left after the season finale, it can't be super-happy Winchesters who get along great, don't you think?

  5. Nic SNfan says:

I disagree. It's been 2 seasons now. Enough of fighting.

  6. I miss my Boys. I need them together. And I want Castiel back. I just want the show back on. But the brothers have to hunt together.

Heh, I think a certain Mr. Jared Padalecki likes it. ;P

I hope it means the boys switch the roles they first begin season 6 with. Sam not being able to keep up this facade of a tactical hunter ,his heart and true self not allowing him to so and with Dean's support and love finds a medium between both and Dean realizing suburian life never will be for him after a struggle with it and with Sam's support and love fully embraces the hunting life, something he almost seems born to do. I hope the writers do something like this, sticking to their promise to return this show's focus on the brothers, to be a more intimate personal storyline and one very much like the first season

SUPERNATURAL season 6 looks promising and hopefully it'll be a Series finale before it grows on and on. I wished season 5 would be the finale because it is true that you can't have a happy ending in Supernatural.

I cant wait! I love me some Dean!!! Supernatural #1!!!

  11. Claudia says:

Guess, we'll have to wait and find out what the writers think. ;D

Just read this from June: "Mitch Pileggi will return to Supernatural in their upcoming sixth season as Joseph Campbell" – grandpa's name is Samuel. Theory- Joseph is grandpa's twin.

I believe it isn't the series finale, they've said they're starting again. It'll basically be season 1 again and I think it's a good way to go, because the shows great but it would probably get old otherwise. I just wonder what mythology they're going to follow now that could match apocalypse in the very end. It should be great as long as Sam and Dean are in it :)

I personally wish they would hurry up and right grandpa and the rest of the cousins out of the script the only help the boys need, is cas and bobby the other family just seems to be a bad influence on sammy and compeltly creepy
