Supernatural Teasers: The Winchesters vs. The Greek Gods

SupernaturalMythical gods are no stranger to the Winchesters on Supernatural.  In a previous season 5 episode, “Hammer of the Gods”, Sam and Dean encountered a slew of pagan gods in a hotel who were trying to figure out how to deal with the Judeo-Christian apocalypse that threatened the world.  In the season 7 episode “Time After Time” the brothers also encountered Chronos, the god of time.

In a late February episode the Winchesters will once again be pitted against mystical figures: “Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) are stumped when they investigate a possible zombie case where an amnesiac man (guest star John Reardon) dies and then revives himself once a day. After the guy is attacked by the goddess Artemis (guest star Anna Von Hooft), Sam and Dean realize he’s not a zombie but instead a god, more specifically, Prometheus. Steve Boyum directed the episode written by Daniel Loflin.”

For those of you who don’t remember your classical mythology lectures, Prometheus was a Titan (hence the episode name “Remember the Titans”) who supposedly stole fire from the gods to give to humans and was basically a symbol of human progression and innovation.  As a result of his theft, Zeus had him chained to a rock for all eternity where his liver would be eaten daily by a giant bird and would regrow each night (the gods were very creative with their eternal punishments.  Meanwhile, Artemis is the sister of sun god Apollo and was a patron of hunting and wildlife.  It will be interesting to see how much of these myths the Loflin has weaved into the story.
