WOW! The underdogs have it, people. For two weeks leading up to November 1, TV Guide Magazine allowed its fans to vote on which show should appear on its cover (a first for the magazine). After attending Comic Con, TV Guide Magazine editor Debra Birnbaum decided to choose 6 fan-favorite shows to put to the magazine's readers and allow them to choose the cover story.
The six shows were: Bones, Castle, Chuck, How I Met Your Mother, Smallville and Supernatural.
The entire voting process was fierce! It became a Twitter phenomenon. The actors and producers of the shows got involved, asking their fans to vote for them. It became clear pretty early on, however, that three shows were standing out from the crowd: Chuck, Smallville and Supernatural.
Then Smallville slipped clearly into third place and the devoted fandoms of two shows raced neck and neck to the finish line. Birnbaum would give pretty constant updates from her Twitter account, letting fans know which show was in the lead at any given time. Chuck and Supernatural were constantly switching between first and second place.
Today, 5.5 million votes later, the little show that could - Supernatural - was announced as the official winner of the TV Guide Cover Poll (check out the cover below). We're not certain yet what the final tally of votes was for each show, but given Birnbaum's tweets in the last hours of the polls, I'm fairly certain that it was close.
I'm not going to lie, I was rooting for Supernatural the entire way, so I'm thrilled that one of the lowest-rated shows of any on the poll has officially won its first cover. Supernatural fans are dedicated, so congratulations to all of you for making it happen!
I spoke with Birnbaum after the poll had closed and she indicated that this cover poll would likely become a yearly thing, so it will be interesting to see which shows are up for vote next year and who wins!

YAY!!! We did it! I'm not thrilled with the overly-photoshopped cover (where are Jensen's freckles and Jared's moles???) but at least we have our cover. WAY TO GO, SPN FANS!!!

My first thought was: Jared's eyes. They're green. So…why are they blue here? At least they didn't mess around too much with Jensen's. *sigh* Well, anyway, I'm happy that Supernatural won the cover. Fans pulling together for a good cause. Or something. I'm going to Walmart and buying that shi, I'll tell ya that.

I think this is less airbrushing and more full on wind turbine scrubbing. I'm surprised that it wasn't their skeletons on the cover. By the way if I buy this and Misha Collins isn't the centrefold (with tasteful staple placement) I'll be demanding my money back. / I kid, I plan to steal this.

So so sad Misha's not on the cover! i voted everyday for an airbrushed cover with no misha! i'm a little bummed now but still happy we won! Supernatural fans are the best! and btw Misha i'm sure if you actually announced your plans to rob banks your loyalist would do it!
I am glad Supernatural one. The cast/crew etc. more than deserve the acknowledgement for their hard work. The fans worked real hard to make this happen. I’m so proud. Wish it weren’t so photo shopped though. Would have liked Misha on the cover as well.

YEAAYYYY for us who voted!!!! it's about d*mn time don't you guys think! These are the most hard-working cast & crew, so glad we're able to give them this!
a little note on the cover, even though most actors need to be airburshed to be presentable on a magazine cover, these boys are the exceptions. they are simply beautiful and doesn't really need to be airbrushed (maybe for the next one?). and would also loove to see Misha Collins on the cover (maybe for the next one too? ;)
Jensen and Jared definitely don't need photoshop.

1) They guys look WAY too photoshopped, it looks like it's been done by an amateur.
2) Raw, unbridled, sexual magnetism or no, Misha should have been on that cover! I get why, if forced to choose two people from the show, it'd be Jared and Jensen (since they're the lead actors), but Castiel's such an important character, Misha should have been on that cover too! I'd rather the picture be a bit cramped (which it wouldn't have been, anyway – if Anna, Bill and Alexander (True Blood) can, so can Jared, Jensen and Misha!) than over-photoshopped!
