Switched at Birth finally returns to finish out its first season on January 3.  When the show went on hiatus a few months ago, Bay's biological father, Angelo, finally met his daughter and also told John that he had a secret weapon in the lawsuit against the hospital.  Toby and Emmet decided to join Wilkie on a tour for their band and Bay and Daphne clashed over Bay's relationship with Emmet.

The January return of Switched at Birth features Bay trying to get closer to her father, Angelo.  But her parents are very distrustful of him and put restrictions on Bay's contact with him.  Bay and Daphne continue to fight over Emmet.  Daphne decides to head to the music festival where Emmet, Toby and Wilkie are playing in an attempt to spend some time with her friend.  But when Bay finds out about Daphne's plan, she heads to the festival as well.  With Bay staking her claim on Emmet, will Daphne and Wilkie grow closer?  Kathryn also decides to go behind John's back and speaks with the nurse that Angelo has identified as a key witness for their lawsuit against the hospital.

Another new episode of Switched at Birth will air on January 10 and Bay will be trying to impress Emmet's mother, Melody (guest star Marlee Matlin), with her new knowledge of American Sign Language.  But Melody isn't too impressed with Emmet's new girlfriend.  A reporter will be approaching Kathryn about writing a book about their baby-swap story, but Kathryn doesn't want to turn their lives into tabloid fodder.  Instead, she considers the idea of writing a book on her own.  Daphne will also be gaining a new friend named Simone, who just so happens to be an old friend of Bay's.
