Ron Moore Headings Back to Syfy with Non-Battlestar Show, Helix
I loved Ron Moore's Battlestar Galactica, but not many of the spin-off projects since that have come out of Syfy. That said, I'm all for giving the man another go at a sci-fi series, as it's obvious he's got real talent in the genre.
Well, I may get my wish as Syfy is finalizing a deal with Moore for a new show, Helix. It will tentatively be 13 episodes for an initial season. What's it all about?
"Helix will follow scientists living in an Arctic research facility. When the threat of a potential disease hits the men and women living in the research facility, they must come together and attempt to tackle the potentially debilitating disease before it spreads to the rest of humanity and wreaks utter havoc."
Interesting, though no obvious sci-fi angle is present in that description. How will the disease manifest itself? Are we talking about zombies or mutants here? Obviously something sci-fi-ish terrorizing and Arctic research facility feels a bit like The Thing, so I'll look forward to seeing how the show differentiates itself from those pair of films.
What do you think Ron Moore has up his sleeve here?
