Deadline just announced that NBC has found the right lady to play the iconic role in David E. Kelly's take on the comic book character, and that lucky woman is Adrianne Palicki, of Friday Night Lights and Lone Star fame. Fellas, start your oogling now. The twenty-seven-year-old actress was announced as the new Diana Prince for NBC's upcoming pilot on Wednesday, surprising many.

Mad Men star Christina Hendricks previously expressed interest in the role.

Palicki, who had a starring role in last year's thriller film Legion, will take over the role made famous by Lynda Carter back in the 1970s. Wonder Woman will apparently be a straight-faced, non-camp take on the famous superheroine, and will follow NBC's previous attempts at a successful superhero series, such as the recently cancelled Heroes and the flagging The Cape.

The casting of Palicki, who appears as a blonde in Friday Night Lights, has been cited as "brilliant casting [for a] horrible script," by HitFix, who claimed "a David E. Kelley-written Wonder Woman is going to be a complete embarrassment, even with somebody like Palicki in the title role."

So even with the bad press floating around, will Palicki be able to snag NBC a much-needed hit as the woman also known as Diana Prince? That's still very much up in the air at this point -- NBC hasn't even committed the pilot to series!

If you're unfamiliar with Palicki's work, anyone who has seen the show will highly recommend that you go and check out Friday Night Lights, which just finished airing its final season earlier this month. In the meantime, keep your eyes on TVOvermind for more Wonder Woman news!

Why can't Wonder Woman find anyone to love her?

I'm not speaking of the character herself, but of the stagnant, languishing attempt to bring her star-spangled presence back to any screen, big or small.

In an interview with Zap2It, the recently announced stab that David E. Kelley was planning to take sounds like it's not gelling as rapidly as fans would like, with Kelley admitting his hesitation as to whether or not he is the right man for the job.

My opinion is that if you have to question whether or not such a beloved property with an enormously devoted fan base is your cup of tea, the best thing you can do for the fans, and yourself, is to back away slowly. No one wants to see yet another failed attempt at bringing a well-regarded superheroine to life. If you aren't 100% convinced you can bring your A game, let someone with the confidence, not to mention a proven track record in the lady-led, sci-fi genre, do it. Joss Whedon/J.J. Abrams - I'm calling your names.

Personally, I don't get why the Amazon Princess can't come play with the big boys as a feature film? She's got more name recognition than Green Lantern, Iron Man and Wolverine. They all have their own franchises in the movie arena, yet there's no room for her to stretch her lengthy legs right along side them? If there were ever a chance at making a success with a female-driven superhero franchise, it's Wonder Woman. I'm confident she could successfully draw large audiences, if tackled appropriately.

If TV is her ultimate destination, I have but a few requests:

	- Steer clear of the cheesecake. It may have served the 70's well for Lynda Carter to prance around in her underwear to titillate audiences, but this is 2010. We've grown up.
- Focus on the strength of the character. She's an Amazon Warrior whose abilities rival Superman's for pete's sake! Give her the heft she deserves.
- Cast appropriately. Unknowns are fine, but make sure she's looks the part (no I'm not just talking about boobs), and can, you know, ACT.
- Mythologize the heck out of it. Despite what the ratings may indicate, fanboys and girls alike want the mythology. Your only chance at developing a hardcore fan base is to include overarching stories in amongst the weekly challenges.
- Weave in various other DC properties. It served Smallville very well to do this in the last few years.
- Cast Lynda Carter as Hippolyta. Not mandatory, but would be a nifty little nod to the past series to include her in a recurring role.

What do you think? Should David E. Kelley hold on to the prospect, even if the project continues in limbo for a while longer? Or should Warner Bros./DC pursue someone with better credentials to start hammering something out now? Sound off in the comments section below.

Kelley has a pilot for a new show that WILL NOT be going forward as an actual tv series. NBC has officially passed on Kelley's new legal drama, Legally Mad, which was originally kept in contention for a midseason release. What's really interesting is that by not picking up the new series, NBC must now pay a seven figure penalty to the Warner Bros. TV produced show.

Legally Mad was set to follow Skippy Pylon, a cheerful and brilliant attorney who exhibits flashes of psychosis and often assumes the role of a teenager. Ex-Pushing Daisies star Kristin Chenoweth had been tapped to play the role of Skippy, and fans of the beautiful actress were hopeful that this would last longer than the short-lived Pushing Daisies. As of right now, it appears that there are no other plans to shop the project to any other networks, making it one of the first Kelley pilots to not make it to the small screen in a very long time.

However, Kelley isn't the lone star producer to have a show axed by NBC. The new Dick Wolf-produced Lost & Found, which stars Galactica's Katee Sackhoff, is also expected to not be picked up as a midseason series by the network. There has been some talk of shopping the new series with sister cable network USA. The network already airs another Wolf series, Law and Order: Criminal Intent. However, the not so good news for the series is that USA already has a strong female leading series which is also a law enforcement drama with In Plain Sight, making one wonder if the network would even be interested in another.
