Palin To Lauer - "Agree With me, or You're Naive."

Sarah Palin is proving that she hasn't lost her ability to twist the truth since the presidential campaign - which she and John McCain lost in nearly historic proportions, by the way. Appearing on Today this morning, Palin revisited the David Letterman scandal by first trying to twist Dave's joke about how she looks like a "Slutty Flight Attendant" into a hateful generalization of Flight Attendant's in general - it wasn't, just the slutty one - and then, so smoothly you almost couldn't tell she had rehearsed it (almost), she tried to retro-train our minds to believe that David had made a joke about the "statutory rape" of her daughter.

Perhaps the funniest part of the interview is where she called Dave's apology "convenient." First of all, it really wasn't convenient as he dedicated way too much of his time to it - next, I believe the verb she was looking for was "mocking." Doesn't she get that 90% of Dave's apology was, in effect, just another joke? When Lauer spoke in defense of Letterman, pointing out that David's 'apology' was mostly an attempt to point out that he was not referring to Willow but Bristol, who famously because the postergirl for teen pregnancy and is now, wait for it, a spokesperson for abstinence (after all it worked so well for her), Palin insinuated, basically, that you'd have to be stupid to believe it. "You, and anybody else, are extremely naive to believe that very convenient excuse of David Letterman's the other day."

Now, let's be serious. If the joke were about my daughter, I'd be flipping pissed off and be calling David every name in the book - the unabridged edition of "the book" at that. Dave's joke's were kinda mean and were targeted towards young girls, albeit young girls who make really stupid mistakes, even if his ultimate target was Palin. However, Palin's seeming mission here, to turn this into some kind of crusade against bad taste, more than borders on calls for censorship. I don't particularly like the Diceman, if you know what I mean, but he should have the right to perform, and I'm sure Dave was no where near the territory of the kind of jokes Dice would be telling about Sarah Palin and her daughter. Whether you agree with Dave's humor, or not, Palin needs to move on and not try to make out Letterman as something he's not. What's next? He was palling around with terrorists?

Palin's solution is to urge everybody to rise up against Letterman, and fix what is wrong with this country: comedians making fun of her. In the end, though, Dave is protected by free speech and the first amendment. He's as free to make an ass out himself as she did, oh so many times. Of course, the constitution doesn't mean much to Palin - that's assuming she knows what it is - so I suppose that point is moot. So, bring on the censorship! Muzzle our comedians first, reporters next, then hopefully at some point we'll get to the real root of the problem and silence the damn politicians.
