The episode was one of the shocking of possibly all time, featuring not one main character death, but at least 3 (and possibly 4 -- I'm still holding out for Frank). The other three characters -- season one alumni, were Sayid, Sun, and Jin, three fan favorites who died absolutely sad and heartbreaking deaths.

But they weren't the first to die on the Island, and they certainly won't be the last. But before we get into that final stretch of killings that will occur over the next three episodes, let's take a look back at eight more deaths that completely knocked us out of our chairs and made our hearts stop in our chests. We'll start with what we've deemed the eighth most shocking death and move forward until we reach the number one. Hang on to your hats, people. It's going to be a sad ride.

Next: #8 - #5

LOST -- Big Death (and Life) in S6 Premiere

We've all known that the sixth and final season of LOST will be bloody. That's almost a given for any final season of a show as populated and epic as LOST. But don't think you'll have to wait even a few episodes for the first big death of the season. E! Online's Kristin dos Santos offered us two choices for who the death would be, and both of them involve our favorite Republican Guardsman: Sayid Jarrah.

"One of the following is true," dos Santos hinted. "Sayid dies, or Sayid kills Jack."

Both don't really bode well for Sayid, especially since the second option is about as likely as the Island being on the back of a giant turtle.

We last saw Sayid near death in "The Incident," after he had been shot in the abdomen by Roger Linus. He was still clinging onto life as the Incident happened at the Swan station, but he was fading fast. It looks as though Sayid will succumb to his wounds in the first two hours of the season premiere, "LA X."

But that doesn't mean we won't be seeing Sayid for the rest of the season. Au, contraire. Filming reports have shown Sayid participating in scenes with characters like Mikhail.

No, the real deal is that Sayid will die in the 1977 timeline, but will be resurrected in the Temple by the Others. That's the current buzz on several spoiler sites. Speculators think that Sayid will in fact die later on in the season, but is safe for the first half of the season, at least.

Having trouble wrapping your head around that? You're not the only one. But this storyline is certain to be one of the least complex storylines for LOST's sixth season, which will likely have you scratching your head as you struggle to figure out its complexities as it builds up to its must-anticipated conclusion in May.

LOST: 8 Season Five Revelations

For every 'answer' we are given on Lost, there are usually four more questions raised. While this tends to frustrate some fans, I feel as though the writers and producers addressed more than the usual amount of lingering questions in Season 5.

Below is just a sampling of the significant revelations that I enjoyed from this season. By all means, please add your own below!

1. Smokey emanates and/or is unleashed from below New Otherton. Ben literally pulls a plug beneath his house in what resembles a campground bathroom drain, and voilà.

2. The statue! It is more than just a foot, and something lies in its shadow...

3. Charles Widmore and Eloise Hawking were original Hostiles stationed on the island in 1954. Daniel Faraday is their son.

4. Charles Widmore funded and staged the fake flight 815 wreckage, using corpses pilfered from a Thai graveyard.

5. Dr. Mavin Candle is more than a Dharma Orientation film narrator; he is actually Dr. Pierre Chang, a scientist who played an integral role in the construction of both the Orchid and Swan. Miles is his son.

6. Danielle Rousseau was telling the truth about her arrival and initial experiences on the island.

7. The Others' runway was built for the eventual arrival of Ajira flight 316.

8. Sayid shoots, but does not kill, young Ben Linus.

LOST Askew: "Whatever Happened, Happened" in Review

Flashback, 2005 off island. Kate is sporting an unfortunate scruchie; women everywhere cringe and are appalled. She and baby Aaron go to see Cassidy, Sawyer's ex and baby mama to their daughter Clementine. [Side note: Cassidy and Kate previously met in a Season 3 flashback during a con]. Cassidy knows that she 'survived' the plane crash, and Kate tells her that Sawyer sent her. As many of us assumed, Sawyer whispered that favor about taking care Clementine to Kate right before he jumped out of the helicopter last season. Kate gives her an envelope full of cash and tells her the truth about what really happened. The money is from Kate's Oceanic settlement, and not from Sawyer. Cassidy calls Sawyer a coward and tells Kate that he jumped out to get away from her. Ouch.

Flashback, 2007 off island. Kate loses Aaron in a supermarket and she freaks out. A woman who looks exactly like Claire (from behind) is taking him toward the front door when Kate finds them. Kate goes to see Cassidy again, and Clementine refers to her as Auntie Kate. Kate tells Cassidy that she always expected someone to take Aaron. Cassidy tells her that she needed Aaron because Sawyer broke her heart.

Kate then goes to see Claire's mom Carole at the hotel where she is staying in Los Angeles. She tells her about her grandson Aaron and that Claire is still alive. (I'm not sure what part of leave-my-baby-in-a-tree to go share some laughs with Ghost Dad in Jacob's cabin illustrates alive & well, but apparently many still believe it to be true. I digress). Kate explains that she pretended to be Aaron's mom to protect him after rescue, and that she is going to leave Aaron with her while she returns to the island. The goober is sleeping alone in a room two doors down. Kate gives him a very heartfelt, tearful goodbye and leaves.

Flashback, 1977 on main island. Jin is conscious again after being knocked out by Sayid. He seems Little Linus lying face down, and turns him over to see that he's been shot. Jin puts him in the Dharma van and takes him back to the Barracks.

Meanwhile in Dharmaville, Horace is updating his people about the situation - that the prisoner (Sayid) has escaped. Jack asks questions. Horace isn't on Team Jack just yet; he tells him that "one of us" must have let Sayid out of the jail cell because there weren't any Hostiles breaking through the sonic fence.

Roger Linus is attempting to pull the burned Dharma van from out of the scorched house. He seeks assistance from fake mechanic Kate. They briefly bond, and when he introduces himself she definitely recognizes his last name. When Jin arrives back with the wounded Little Linus, Roger runs after his son.

Sheriff Sawyer is looking at the monitors in the security station when Kate shows up to ask what happened to Little Linus. But before he can answer, Horace arrives. Sawyer and Kate are professional con artists, which make them good actors - so they quickly alleviate any suspicion and Kate leaves. Horace and Sawyer discover a set of janitor keys in the cell door, giving them three suspects: Roger, Jack and a Dharma red shirt named Willie. Sawyer sends Security Sidekick Miles to keep Jack, Hurley and Kate under house arrest until matters are resolved.

At the infirmary, Sawyer asks to borrow Roger's keys. Doh! He realizes that Ben must have stolen them but lies and tells Sawyer that he left them at home. Juliet is inside trying to operate on Little Linus, but she's no surgeon.

In the house, Miles attempts to explain the time shifts to Hurley (who references Back to the Future; spot on!). It is highly amusing and informative; as if he were speaking directly to us. Thank you, Darlton. A few key elements of their conversation: Sayid shot Ben; that is what always happened and the Losties never experienced how it all turns out.

Sawyer comes to get the Doc to help save Little Linus, but Jack refuses. He's been there, done that. Channeling Season 1 Locke, Jack talks about the island fixing things itself. Kate doesn't like New Jack. He reminds her that she wasn't too fond of Old Jack either. Forget Freckles, let's call her Fickle.

Kate goes to donate blood to Little Linus. She and Juliet are working together, which is both disconcerting and odd. Roger storms in, demanding an update about his son. He and Kate bond again. When he says "a boy just needs his mother," cue thoughts of parallels to Aaron and Claire vs. Aaron and Kate.

An exasperated Miles continues to explain their current situation to Hurley, that all of this has already happened. But Miles is stumped when Hurley asks why 2004 Ben wouldn't remember Sayid as the man who shot him in 1977.

Little Linus' condition is not improving. Juliet reveals that she knows the Others may be able to save him, so she and Kate quietly put him in a Dharma van and Kate drives him to the sonic fence area. Sawyer shows up and helps her, but says he is doing so for Juliet. Ouch x2.

Juliet goes to verbally bitch-slap Jack for letting a child die rather than help save him, and wants to know why he even came back to the island. Channeling Season 4 Locke, Jack says that he was supposed to come back (but has no idea why yet).

Sawyer is carrying Little Linus through the jungle with Kate. She finally tells him about Clementine, and he attempts to convince her that he would be both a horrible father and boyfriend if he had left the island. Out of nowhere the Hostiles/Others show up and Sawyer asks for Richard Alpert. Guyliner appears rather quickly and asks if the injured kid is Ben Linus. When Sawyer asks if Guyliner and Little Linus had ever met, he does not get an answer.

Guyliner tells them that if he takes Little Linus, the boy will lose his innocence, become "one of us" and not remember any of what happened to him. A random Hostile/Other whispers to Guyliner that Ellie (Eloise Hawking) and Charles (Widmore) won't be pleased about taking Little Linus, and many of us gasp with joy to hear that they're still on the island at that point. Guyliner points out that he doesn't answer to them, and takes Little Linus into the jungle by himself. Suddenly he is front of The Temple. After a deep breath, he takes the kid inside. And scene.

Flashback again to 2007, Hydra Island. In the abandoned Dharma station on the smaller island where the Ajira flight crashed, Ben wakes up (presumably for the first time since being knocked out by Sun's oar). But the man he killed before getting on that plane is sitting by his bedside; Locke welcomes Ben back "to the land of the living."

And that is the story of Little Linus Alive.

Lost Askew: "He's Our You" in Review

Flashback: Tikrit, Iraq. A boy is instructed by his father to kill a chicken but seems hesitant, so his younger brother Sayid breaks the chicken's neck without hesitation. Sayid is and always has been the man.

Flash forward 1: Moscow. Sayid is sporting his pretty post-island ladykiller hair. He is chasing a man into an apartment. The man offers him wads of cash but Sayid kills him and does not take the money. After he leaves, Ben shows up and informs him that his assassination days are over. According to Ben, Sayid killed off all of Widmore's associates who were a threat to the Oceanic 6 and those left on the island. Sayid was no longer needed by Ben, which strangely surprises and/or angers him.

Flash forward 2: Dominican Republic. Extreme Makeover, Sayid Style. He is working construction, helping to build a charitable school. Ben shows up and tells him that Locke is dead; that it was retribution for Sayid's murdering spree. Liar pants. He then tells Sayid that he's in danger, given how easy it was to find him, and that Hurley is being watched at the mental institution. Sayid realizes that Ben wants him to kill the man stalking the big guy, and then they argue about whether it's in Sayid's nature to kill. Not-so-spoiler alert: it is and he does.

Flash forward 3: Los Angeles. Sayid is drinking MacCutcheon at a fancy bar when future mystery Ajira passenger Ilana sits down nearby. Plenty of whiskey and flirting ensues. They go to a hotel room and, as Sayid is apt to do, he fails to see that his hot conquest is not who she appears to be. She kicks his ass with her long leather Alias boots, pulls out her gun and tells him that she's been hired to take him to Guam by the family of the guy he killed on the golf course.

Ilana takes Sayid in handcuffs to the airport for Ajira flight 316. When he sees Hurley, Jack and Kate, he freaks out and asks to take a later flight. Then when Ben gets on the plane, Sayid asks Ilana if she works for him, and she denies knowing who he is.

Time Shift: 1977, on the island. Sayid is still in jail beneath Dharmaville. Little Linus brings him a sandwich and a book called "A Separate Reality." He wants to know if Richard Alpert sent him, because Little Linus thinks Sayid is a Hostile and wants to help. Then Horace and Radzinsky try to get information out of Sayid, but he isn't playing along. So Sheriff Sawyer gives it a try, and although he tries to convince Sayid to pretend to be a Hostile, he won't play along with his former friend either.

Little Linus brings Sayid yet another sandwich, but Drunk Daddy Linus is mopping up near Sayid's cell. Daddy assaults Little Linus for lying about who the sandwich is for, smashing his face and glasses against the bars.

Horace, Radzinsky, Security Nerd Phil and Sheriff Sawyer then bring Sayid to his Dharma evil equal, creepy torture expert Oldham. He lives in a tent on the outskirts of Dharmaville. Oldham forces Sayid to swallow a hallucinogenic laced sugar cube. Sayid then giggles like a school girl, tells them that he's from the future, that he lived on the island for 100 days, and that he knew about the Flame, Pearl and Swan hatches and their purposes. Radzinsky's head just about explodes, because his precious Swan hasn't been built yet and he thinks Sayid is a spy. But no one really believes any of what Sayid said.

So the important residents of Dharmaville meet to discuss what to do with Sayid. Radzinsky suggests killing him, and that is supported by new mom Amy, so everyone agrees. Sawyer goes to warn Sayid and allow him to escape, but Sayid refuses because he understands his purpose for returning to the island. Uh oh.

Back at Chez Suliet, Juliet expresses concern to Sawyer that the return of Hurley, Jack and Kate will disrupt their new Dharma lives. Meanwhile, Dharma Chef Hurley informs Kate that Juliet and Sawyer are together. So when Juliet shows Kate around her new mechanic work digs, Kate tells her that she knows. Awkward! Although I wanted Juliet to shove her against a truck and threaten her to stay away from her man, she simply expresses relief instead. Yawn.

But later that night, Saywer goes to Kate's house to find out why she came back to the island. In true Lost style, a flaming Dharma van goes flying by before we find out her answer. Little Linus set it up so that he could release Sayid while everyone tended to the van, which crashed into a house and set it ablaze. They take off into the jungle but Jin sees them, so Sayid knocks him out before he can report to Sawyer via walkie. Little Linus is impressed, but Sayid tells him something that Future Linus told him...that he is a killer. Sayid then shoots Little Linus in the chest and runs away.

And that is the twisted tale of the torturer from Tikrit.

2007. Ajira flight 316 is still in the friendly skies, but not for long. Frank Lapidus' co-pilot notices that Oceanic flight 815 passenger Hugo Reyes is on their flight. Cue the turbulence. Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sun and Sayid shuffle uncomfortably in their seats. They have no idea HOW they're going to arrive back on the island. Cue the bright lights and ear piercing sounds of a Time Shift.

The plane was flying at night, but emerges from the turbulence in daylight. It is heading directly toward the mountains on the smaller Hydra Island. Cap'n Frank manages to avoid crashing into them, and lo and behold - the Others' runway appears just ahead. That's right, the one that Ben was having Kate in a Dress and Sweaty Sawyer help build in Season 3. No idea when and how it was completed, but Evil Genius must have known that this flight would one day arrive.

They manage a rough landing but the plane remains intact. Co-pilot gets impaled by a tree after they skid off the runway and into the jungle. Little Caesar checks on Mysterious Ilana and she notices that Sayid has disappeared, even though he was handcuffed and in her custody. All of the Oceanic 6 have vanished, except for Sun. Ben states the obvious, "they're gone." Thanks, Bug Eyes.

After getting off the plane, Ilana asks Sun if she lost someone. I think she already knows the answer. Lapidus channels Pilot Episode Jack and gathers everyone on the beach and instructs them to await rescue, while Little Caesar seems ready to explore the Hydra buildings. I think he knows exactly where they are and what he's looking for.

Ben slips away from the group and Sun takes off after him in the jungle. Lapidus goes after her. Ben pretends not to know why Sun is following him and they discuss going to the main island where she can search for Jin. Lapidus questions Sun's decision to trust Ben, but after Ben leads them to an outrigger canoe, she knocks him out with an oar. Lost fans everywhere cheer in unison. Sun is badass.

Lapidus and Sun take off in the canoe and arrive on the main island at night. As they walk down the dock toward Dharmaville, something is shaking in the bushes. It may have been Baby Smokey, before he had a voice or anger issues. It is unclear what era they are in, because Dharmaville is deserted and creepy. Cue 'the whispers,' followed by a surprise appearance by Christian Shephard. Sun asks if he knows where Jin is, and he leads them into the abandoned rec room where he shows them a photo of the new Dharma recruits from 1977. He tells her that Jin is with his friends, and that they have a long journey ahead of them. Ghost Claire, accompanied by horror movie white smoke, may or may not have appeared very briefly behind Sun during this conversation...

1977. Reunited and it feels so good. Hurley gives Sawyer a bear hug. Jack shakes his hand, and Sawyer and Kate share a hug but address one another informally (Freckles is SO 2004). Sheriff Sawyer tells the group that they're in 1977. Jin and his bad perm freak out when Jack tells them that Sun was on the plane that brought them there as well. Cue reveal of previously named but never seen character - Radzinsky (Kelvin Inman's Swan hatch roomie prior to Desmond)! Jin takes off in the Dharma jeep to The Flame station to find out if Radzinsky knew about the plane. Many of us were hoping to see a pre-eye patch Mikhail there, but no such luck.

Hot Mechanic Juliet asks Security Sidekick Miles if he knows where Sawyer is. They see him back at Chez Suliet. Juliet goes to confront Sawyer as he's gathering Dharma clothes to disguise Jack, Kate and Hurley. He tells her that they're back, and her heart sinks. But she reminds him that the sub is bringing a new batch of recruits that day, which helps him formulate a plan.

Cut to The Flame, where Radzinsky is working on a model version of the Swan hatch. [Side note: the last time we saw this model, Dr. Marvin Candle was pointing to it in the very first Orientation Film that Desmond showed Locke; the film was circa 1980]. Jin runs in and checks the dot matrix print outs, and Radzinsky mocks the very thought of an airplane landing on the island without his knowledge. To emphasize the urgency, Jin channels his former corporate thug self and throws Radzinsky against the wall, demanding that he call all Dharma stations to inquire. None report seeing a plane. Then a Dharmalarm goes off, and Jin takes off into the jungle because a Hostile is approaching. It is Sayid, but before they can share a bromantic hug, Radzinsky shows up. Jin has to play along and keep his cover, so he takes Sayid into custody.

Jilted Juliet approaches new mom Amy, who is chilling on a hammock only one day after giving birth. She has the sub manifest, which Juliet needs to alter in order to make Jack, Kate and Hurley the new recruits. Amy tells her that she and Horace have named their baby Ethan. Cue creepy recognition on Juliet's face, as she realizes that she helped deliver her future Other cohort Ethan Rom.

Sawyer is driving Jack, Kate and Sawyer to the Barracks, where they will pretend to be new Dharma recruits. He mentions that Faraday has theories about why they're stuck in time, but of course offers no elaboration. It seems that Faraday is no longer with them in 1977, however. After they arrive, Jin calls Sawyer on walkie to inform him about Sayid's capture.

Jack is being processed by none other than Pierre Chang (a.k.a. Dr. Marvin Candle), who is bitter about being taken out of his lab to replace Amy. Jack is assigned to be a Dharma Work Man (janitor), just like Ben's dad was. Nice one, Sawyer. Phil, the suspicious security guy, is grilling Kate because she's not on the list. Juliet shows up with her paperwork. Awkward fake introductions ensue.

Sawyer shows up at the Flame and despite Radzinsky's objections, takes Sayid back to the Barracks. Radzinsky is upset that Sayid saw the Swan model, which must mean that whatever they wind up burying beneath it (behind the concrete wall) is quite significant. Jughead, anyone?

Later that night, Jack goes to see the new Sheriff in town. He is surprised that Juliet answered the door at Sawyer's house, and gives her a hug. If he figured out that they were shacking up, he didn't acknowledge it. Sawyer is reading a book, and Jack thinks he should be working on a plan. Because even after three years, Jack is still a control freak with fixing issues. But Sawyer reminds him that he's in charge now; he thinks rather than reacts. He dispatches the sober Doc back to his sleeping quarters, and then sees twitchy Kate pacing back and forth on a neighboring patio. They exchange awkward waves.

Sayid is being held in a small jail cell beneath the Barracks. A young boy brings him a sandwich and asks if he is a Hostile. It's Little Linus! And, scene.
