FOX Unleashes Terra Nova Promo Pics

Ever since it was announced TV fans have been  clamoring for a peek at Steven Spielberg's Sci-Fi actioner Terra Nova, and now FOX has obliged.  Unfortunately, though, no mutant intelligent dinos grace these pics.  Instead we get some decent action shots and a gallery of the lead characters - that will have to suffice until we get closer to Terra Nova's May 11th premiere date.

TERRA NOVA follows an ordinary family on an incredible journey back in time to prehistoric Earth as a small part of a daring experiment to save the human race. In the year 2149, the world is dying. The planet is overdeveloped and overcrowded, with the majority of plant and animal life extinct. The future of mankind is in doubt, and its only hope for survival is in the distant past.

When scientists at the FERMI Particle Accelerator unexpectedly discovered a fracture in time that made it possible to construct a portal into primeval history, the bold notion was born to resettle humanity in the past – a second chance to rebuild civilization and get it right this time.

The series centers on the Shannon family as they join the Tenth Pilgrimage of settlers to Terra Nova, the first colony established in this beautiful yet forbidding land. JIM SHANNON (Jason O’Mara), a devoted father with a checkered past, guides his family through this new world of limitless beauty, mystery and terror. Jim’s wife, ELISABETH SHANNON (Shelley Conn), is a trauma surgeon and the newest addition to TERRA NOVA’s medical team. JOSH SHANNON (Landon Liboiron) is their 17-year-old son who is angry to leave life as he knows it behind; upon arriving at the settlement, he finds himself instantly drawn to the beautiful and rule-breaking SKYE (Allison Miller). MADDY SHANNON (Naomi Scott), Josh’s endearingly awkward 15-year-old sister, hopes TERRA NOVA will give her a new chance to reinvent herself. Although Elisabeth’s medical training secured the family a spot on the pilgrimage, a secret involving their five-year-old daughter, ZOE (Alana Mansour), soon endangers their place in this utopia.

Upon the Shannon’s arrival, they are introduced to COMMANDER NATHANIEL TAYLOR (Stephen Lang), the charismatic and heroic first pioneer and leader of the settlement. Taylor, along with his right-hand man, GUZMAN (Mido Hamada), warn the travelers that while Terra Nova is a place of new opportunities and fresh beginnings, all is not as idyllic as it initially appears. Along with blue skies, towering waterfalls and lush vegetation, the surrounding terrain is teeming with danger – and not just of the man-eating dinosaur variety. There is also a splinter colony of renegades led by the battle-hardened MIRA (Christine Adams), who is vehemently opposed to Taylor and his leadership.

Even more threatening than what lies outside the protective walls of the colony is the chilling possibility that something sinister is happening inside Terra Nova. The Shannons will come to suspect that not everyone on this mission has the same idea of how to best save mankind; in fact, there may be forces intent on destroying this new world before it even begins.

    This sounds … awful. Why would they go back to the time of the dinosaurs, before man even existed? That makes no sense. They will be wiped out during the extinction, along with most other mammals. And what happens to early man? Do they kill off all of the early homo sapiens to prevent them from evolving? Worst of all … we are going to follow a FAMILY? Did no one learn from Lost how to create a compelling adventure? It does not involve having a 15-year-old girl who wants to reinvent herself. Oh, boy, this really, really, really sounds awful. So awful, I'm almost intrigued enough to tune in to see how truly awful it turns out to be. Spielberg, just retire. You've never done TV right, ever, and your movies stink lately. All you can do successfully is be an "executive producer," which means you officially are that "elder statesman" you used to mock yourself 35 years ago. You have become what you abhorred. All the money in the world couldn't prevent that!

      Your idiocy is blinding. There are several reasons why they would go back to the time of the dinosaurs. Based on the description in the article it seems the likely reason is that the portal ONLY goes to primeval times and thus humanity has no choice but to move there. Or, there might be something in the past at that moment in time that is critical to changing the course of history for mankind. At least make an effort to have an imagination. It is people like you(the majority unfortunately) who cause great shows to get cancelled and make the rest of us live with crap like reality TV. Shut up and crawl back into the hole you call a home and watch some more American Idol and Survivor. Or, maybe do eve What a loser.

    Hmmm … watch the first episode and it clearly states what has happened. There has been a time fracture, which takes them back 85 million years. Yes, to the age of the dinosaurs. This presents the human race an opportunity to survive, as the in the 22nd century is dying.

    Then, in the show, as explained by the daughter Maddy, they'd sent some large timing device through the time fracture, so they could find the monument and work-out how far back the time fracture went. Except the device was never found. Why? Well, you can't change history; the time fracture takes them back in time, but starts another timeline, so the one that actually did exist doesn't get affected. The old "time-paradox" that even Back to The Future explored.

    @Tom. Don't be a hater.
