The Cape: First Look at NBC's New Superhero Show

Yesterday NBC announced its mid-season schedule (view it here).  Among some of the interesting announcements in the new schedule was the premiere date for NBC's new superhero show, The Cape.  NBC has released two trailers, promotional photos of the cast and a short description of the show.

"The Cape" is a one-hour drama series starring David Lyons ("ER") as Vince Faraday, an honest cop on a corrupt police force, who finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. He is forced into hiding, leaving behind his wife Dana (Jennifer Ferrin, "Life on Mars") and son, Trip (Ryan Wynott, "Flash Forward"). Fueled by a desire to reunite with his family and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken Palm City, Vince Faraday becomes "The Cape" – his son’s favorite comic book superhero – and takes the law into his own hands.

Rounding out the cast are James Frain ("The Tudors") as billionaire Peter Fleming – The Cape's Nemesis – who moonlights as the twisted killer, Chess; Keith David ("Death at A Funeral") as Max Milani, the ringleader of a circus gang of bank robbers who mentors Vince Faraday and trains him to be The Cape; Summer Glau ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles") as Orwell, an investigative blogger who wages war on crime and corruption in Palm City; Dorian Missick ("Six Degrees") as Marty Voyt, a former police detective and friend to Faraday, Martin Klebba ("Pirates of the Caribbean") as Rollo, member and unassuming muscle of the circus gang of bank robbers and Vinnie Jones ("Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels") as Scales, resident thug and cohort of The Cape's nemesis Chess.

I find it "old school" in more than one way : it looks like it will appeal to those who likes their superhero with a twinge of old-school moral rectitude
. The Cape may look fusty to some readers, but if you're tired of edgy, superhero deconstructionist yarns, this could be what you want. Of course, we'll reserve judgment until next year.

    Freaking awesome!!!
Even though we've seen this type of training in many movies or tv shows, i like the "old school" touch and circus atmosphere

Looks good. I would watch the first episode. A comic book inspired superhero with no super powers. A circus full of crime fighting types. I have to ask. What is the target audience? NBC is really stepping up with family oriented programming.

The Cape looks amazing.. It's like batman with a bit of zorro thrown in.. It's nerdy awesome
The Cape maybe unoriginal but it has something Heroes doesn't, "ACTION!"

Someone give Summer a show that lasts, damnit! Each time a show she is on gets canceled, she just does guest spots for a year or two before finding yet another show that gets canceled.

I'd really like to see what she can do with a character that has time to solidify.

It's so great to see Summer in more stuff! I'm excited about seeing this.
The Cape is going to be an awesome show for Summer. We wish her and the entire cast the best while filming the upcoming episodes.

Its going to be fun to watch for all ages from kids to adult. :)

I’m looking forward to see Summer on a weekly basis again and hope she’ll have lots of success with The Cape.
The creator of the series, Tom Wheeler, is SO passionate about the show. I hope it lives up to his expectations and ours (or at least those of us looking forward to it)

I like the Circus angle, as it's where he learns his skills.Think of the heroes who have been involved with the circus or were trained there.Robin, Hawkeye and Nightcrawler. He also gets his mask during the second episode.

Looks promising. And I love Summer, so I really hope this works for her :)

I’m not a huge comic book person and though The Cape definitely has the look and feel of a comic, i hope it won't overdo it.

If all goes well, “The Cape” has the potential to turn Summer into a household name much like the show “Castle” did for Nathan Fillion. :) We hope and pray for the show’s success. Our best wishes to Summer and the rest of her cast mates on The Cape.

Starting date quoted by Cape creator Tom Wheeler :
"The Cape premiere Sunday, January 9th and the following day (Monday) they repeat both the pilot and the 2nd episode. The following Monday (January 17th) at 9 you will see Episode 3."

Looks awesome, I can't wait. Seeing Summer Glau in it reminds me of how Terminator got cancelled before its time…Anyways, looks like it'll be great.
