Carrie Bradshaw may be known for her eventful love life as an adult, but on The Carrie Diaries, it looks like her friends are the ones getting into all the trouble.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Broadway actor Kyle Harris has landed a role on the upcoming CW dramedy as a college guy (from Princeton, no less) that begins dating Carrie’s friend Mouse. No timetable for his first appearance has been released, however.
The Carrie Diaries is based on the 2010 Candace Bushnell of the same name and follows Carrie Bradshaw through her senior year of high school in the early 80s and part of her writing career thereafter. The show will find the future sex columnist dabbling in dating, sparring with high school mean girl Donna LaDonna, and trying to become an independent woman during the rough transition period from childhood to adulthood. It’s the latest entry in the Sex and the City franchise and the first return to the property since Sex and the City 2 was released in 2010.
This will be the first primetime TV role for Harris, who has appeared in Sondheim on Sondheim and a National Tour of West Side Story. He’ll be joining a cast that includes the likes of AnnaSophia Robb as Carrie, Austin Butler as Carrie’s love interest Sebastian, Chloe Bridges as aspiring model Donna LaDonna, Ellen Wong as Carrie’s best friend Jill (aka Mouse), and Freema Agyeman as Carrie’s mentor Larissa.
The Carrie Diaries premieres January 2013 on The CW, where it will replace Gossip Girl on Mondays at 9:00. You can check out a preview of the season here, as well as the TVOvermind Carrie Diaries discussion forum here.
