The CW: 2012-2013 Primetime Schedule & Previews for New Shows

The CWThe final network has announced its 2012-2013 schedule during Upfronts week. This morning, The CW unveiled its fall primetime schedule, which heralds the return of veteran shows like Supernatural, 90210 and The Vampire Diaries, as well as the premiere of Arrow, The Carrie Diaries and Beauty and the Beast.

There seems to be a few scheduling changes with the schedule, with Beauty and the Beast being given the coveted spot after The Vampire Diaries. Unsurprisingly, Arrow has been paired up with Supernatural, thus taking over Smallville’s spot as its lead-in. But, somewhat surprisingly, Supernatural has been moved out of Friday nights and onto the Wednesday night schedule. The move makes sense when you consider the fact that The CW would have been unlikely to premiere a new show like Arrow on Fridays and seems to be a promotion for Supernatural. It’s rare that shows are moved out of the Friday night spot.

90210 has moved back to Monday nights as the lead-in for Gossip Girl, which means it’s switching nights with Hart of Dixie. Nikita remains on Fridays, but shifts to Supernatural’s old spot at 9:00 p.m., and is now joined by America’s Next Top Model. The CW has also confirmed that this will be Gossip Girl’s final season (which will consist of 11 episodes).

Expect season premieres to occur in October, not September. Networks are starting to get smarter about having fewer reruns, which means pushing back season premiere dates, as well as staggering them.

The Carrie Diaries and Cult will be held until mid-season, with Cult’s premiere date and time to be announced later.
