The CW’s Flash Casts Its Female Lead

Alright, who’s going to be The Flash’s “Laurel?” Or wait, we all want Oliver to be with Felicity now on Arrow, don’t we? Or Sara? Pretty much anyone but Laurel.

Anyway, The CW has cast the female lead for The Flash, and like Laurel, she’s also a cop’s daughter. According to THR, “Candice Patton will play Iris West, a grad student who is also Barry’s quick-witted best friend and the daughter of Detective West (Jesse L. Martin). The character becomes a love interest for Barry.” Those cops and their daughters, huh?

You probably don’t recognize Patton as she’s a relatively new face. She was in The Game, and has had one-offs in many, many other shows. Cool to see her land this spot here, as it’s rare to see a non-white girl cast as the major romantic lead in a show like this. It’s certainly better than the typical “best friend role” (cough, Vampire Diaries).

Iris West is indeed a character in the comic, and fans might recognize the character’s last name for a certain reason as well…
