The Following Preview: The Hunt for Carroll's Followers Begins...

Serial killer Joe Carroll escaped from prison in the series premiere of The Following, determined to kill his last aborted victim (Sarah Fuller) and force his old nemesis (FBI Agent Ryan Hardy) back into action.  Despite Hardy's return to field duty and the manhunt going on, Joe did manage to kill Sarah and then surrendered himself to FBI custody.

Now back in prison, Carroll has issued a challenge to Ryan to find his new disciples or "followers", who have secretly infiltrated the lives of those closest to Joe and kidnapped his son, and find a way to outsmart Joe himself.  In other words, for Joe, this is just a game.  But wracked with guilt over Sarah's death (and the other deaths that he could not prevent), Ryan is determined to see this case through.

In next week's episode, Emma, Jacob and Paul take Joe's son Joey to a house in the country as they prepare for their next move.  Back home, Ryan, Mike and FBI Specialist Debra Parker, who is brought in to lead the investigation, delve deeper into Joe's psyche and try to track down Joe's followers and the kidnapped boy.  Claire also meets Joe for the first time in years when she confronts him about their missing son.
