She has been a thorn in the side of Lockhart Gardner on more than one occasion (three times, to be exact) and whether she’s scheming behind closed doors or using her baby as a prop, there’s no doubt about it, Patti Nyholm (Martha Plimpton) is always a welcome addition to The Good Wife.
According to TVLine, Nyholm will be working alongside Louis Canning (Michael J Fox) on a case against Lockhart Gardner. Looking back on past appearances by Nyholm, all signs point to some kind of medical mishap with a class-action suit lurking in the wings. Of course, it’s all speculative at this point, but with a Nyholm/Canning alliance, there’s no doubt Alicia (Julianna Margulies) will be in for one of the toughest courtroom fights of her career, especially after recent events. Canning feels used by Alicia’s advances surrounding potential employment at his firm, and Nyholm generally has an air of snide bitterness. Is Alicia any match for this confident and cunning duo? For those of you thinking Lockhart Gardner’s track record is a little too perfect, this could be the episode for which you’ve been waiting.
The one thing we can always count on when Nyholm is around? Theatrics. There’s nothing she likes more than flaunting her ‘working motherhood’status or telling Alicia to get her boyfriend (read: Will Gardner) involved. Let’s not forget, however, Nyholm has the utmost respect for Lockhart Gardner, so much so, she hired them for a brief period in season two’s, ‘In Sickness.’Okay, she hired them for a third of the show, which amounted to about 12.5 minutes, but still. The best part about Nyholm’s return is that good things always happen to surrounding story lines when she’s around. In fact, we have her to thank for Will and Alicia’s first kiss in season one (flashback to ‘Heart’where Nyholm forced both Will and Alicia to do some personal soul searching). Could Nyholm’s return yield similarly gasp-worthy results in this year’s season finale of The Good Wife? Fingers crossed!
Now it’s your turn! Are you excited to see Patti Nyholm return to The Good Wife? What do you think could be in store with a Nyholm/Canning courtroom partnership?
The Good Wife airs on CBS, Sunday nights at 9 pm, EST.
This is going to be soooo goood! I still can't get over how phenomenal TGW's recurring guests are. Can you imagine this pairing with David Paymer as the judge?! Fingers crossed that this also means our favorite dynamic duo (A & K) will be back in top form by then – Alicia will need all the help she can get.
The Nyholm/Canning alliance will be tricky for the writers as they both add such comedic elements, working the courtroom for their sympathies, etc. Also, their large presence and competing narcissism will be fun to balance! Yeah, TGW Season 4, love it!!
