Since perhaps the series finale of LOST last May, there hasn't been a season finale to draw quite as much fan ire as the season finale of AMC's The Killing has. The series, which wrapped up its first season on Sunday, declined to answer its central mystery -- Who killed Rosie Larson? -- in favor of revealing the murderer next season, while simultaneously beginning a new mystery.

Showrunner Veena Sud defended her decision as against "formula," while star Mireille Enos stated that she found the finale "awesome." Fans are still outraged, though. Outraged enough that, as it turns out, the president of AMC deemed it necessary to speak out about the season finale as well.
“We underestimated the passion that viewers have for closure within this season,” president Charlie Collier told EW. “It was never our intention to misguide the viewer. The audience has an important voice, we heard them and don’t take them for granted.”

“I stand by [showrunner] Veena Sud, and risk-taking is what we do; cliffhangers are a staple of TV and a huge part of mysteries,” Collier said. “If I could do anything differently, it would be to manage expectations.”
What do you think? Were your expectations for the finale off, and was it AMC's fault? Sound off in the comments below.
I was extremely disappointed. The guy who pointed the gun at the Councilman was so predictable.
Well Mr Collier, I wont be watching next season. What a waste of near 12 weeks on anticipation. If you want to introduce a new mystery make sure the last one was solved. So, no thank you on the giant shaft and you've lost a viewer.
I am so tired of shows taking advantage of their viewers! They said this would be resolved over and over again then set us up for next season???? Sorry not watching it next season. Fool me once!
Get a life, it was a great ending. Better than being force fed the pablum!
I have just one question for Veena Sud and Charlie Collier, "Was the ending of The Killing changed AFTER the show was renewed for a second season?"
I will let my daughter watch season 2 and tell me who killed Rosie Larson. I am not going to waste my precious time in watching more quite boring episodes. Seems like they did a lot of filling in just any material to stretch it out and then come to a stupid ending which had no answers we were expecting.
Sure this show took risk. It never earned them. The whole season is inconsistent. Most episodes from season 1 are just pure drivel. This show took away any chances of being a great show. Only way it will ever be a good show if in season 2 they can actually redeem first season. Which hardly doubt veena sud is going do. AMC has allowed one person arrogance to destroy their brand. They continued to ride on critical acclaim of the first three episodes. Keep trying to pretend that the Killing is High concept. When the show very bad character development and weak writing, This is no where near the best three crime dramas on television.
1.Southland
2.Justified
3.The Closer
I couldn't have said it better.
Totally agree. I'm surprised that AMC is so out of touch with its viewers particularly with their lofty "the network that can do no wrong" tagline. The only good thing to come out of this has been the emergence of Rosie's parents and Holden and Linden as fine actors to watch….hopefully in some other show worthy of their talents.
