Stephen Colbert and Jon Batiste Pay Tribute to Prince on The Late Show

Stephen Colbert

The world lost a music legend yesterday when news broke that Prince had passed away at the age of 57. Members of the entertainment industry, from singers to actors to writers, expressed their sadness about his death on social media, and Stephen Colbert joined those paying tribute to the iconic artist when he spoke about him last night on The Late Show.

In the video below, Colbert talks about the first time he ever listened to Prince back in his high school choir room. He even joked about how he and his fellow choir members had to wear headphones to ensure that the adults at the school couldn’t hear the lyrics. However, that didn’t stop the music from being as powerful as it was.

After he was finished speaking, Colbert gave Jon Batiste, the leader of the Late Show band, Stay Human, a chance to speak about his time with Prince. Batiste had worked with Prince in the past, and in the video below, he specifically talks about Prince’s “aura” and the “energy and presence” he would bring into a room and how it “filled everybody’s hearts.”
