“The second season of The Newsroom has a different structure than the first season did,” explains executive producer Aaron Sorkin. “There’s one story that goes through the entire season: our characters are being prepared for a deposition they’re going to have to give in a wrongful termination suit. Their jobs and their reputations are in danger.”
Meanwhile, Jim is going off on his own path. As a result of the tension in the newsroom with Maggie and Don, he goes back into the field to cover the Romney campaign, which will clearly form a big part of the season’s storylines, particularly since the election came up several times during season 1. Don and Sloan grow closer through their mutual attraction, while Charlie is faced with a difficult decision about running a story. And Maggie is going to lose “everything” episode by episode.
