Steve Carell's time on The Office is coming to an end, but two special guest stars will be stepping in to make a guest appearance on the one-hour season finale, which will be airing on May 19: Ricky Gervais and Will Arnett.

Gervais (the creator of the original U.K. version of The Office, and a producer for the NBC version) already made his first guest appearance ever on the show back in January.  Now he'll be returning for the May 19 season finale, while Arnett will be making his first appearance on the show.

It seems like the producers are pulling out all the stops for the post-Carell era of the show (he's set to depart before May sweeps).  Will Ferrell is also scheduled to appear in four upcoming episodes.

The Office (along with several other Thursday night comedy shows) was renewed for next season by NBC (read more about that here), so it looks like the producers are determined to continue the show without Carell, which we've known for a while.  EW says that just because Gervais and Arnett will be making appearances in the season finale we shouldn't expect that either of them will be replacing Carell on the show.

A new episode of The Office will be airing this week on Thursday, March 24.
