Talk about keeping it in the family.  Two familiar faces in the Warner Bros./CW family are migrating to another Warner Bros./CW show: The Vampire Diaries.  And it's nothing but great news.

First, EW is reporting that former Supernatural recurring guest star Sebastian Roche (who played the now deceased angel Balthazar) will be joining the third season of The Vampire Diaries in a recurring role.  Roche will be playing a vampire hunter, one who is specifically gunning for Klaus.  Producer Julie Plec told EW that Roche's character has some mad skills in the vampire hunting sphere, enough that Klaus himself is concerned.  At present time, we don't know the name of Roche's character, or when he'll be making his first appearance, but he'll be joining another previously cast guest star played by Heroes' Jack Coleman, who will be playing Bill, a former Mystic Falls resident who also knows about vampires.  Apparently the handsome and charming Roche has made quite the splash on set.  Plec said "He showed up for a costume fitting, and I got an email from the costume designer that all of the women in the costume fitting were flushed and atwitter because he’s a very charming, handsome man.  He’s a classically-trained theater actor, he is mysterious, he has an element of danger to him.  We liked the idea of bringing an adult into our world that wasn’t one of our founding families. He’s just got a quality that is really exciting.”

Another recent piece of casting news is the announcement by Zap2it that Pretty Little Liars actress Claire Holt (who plays Emily's maybe-girlfriend Samara on the ABC Family show) has been cast as the recurring character of Rebecca.  Rebecca is a vampire from Stefan's past who was part of his life during his early bad boy days.  She will be heading to Mystic Falls in season 3 to stir up some trouble for the residents.  Expect to see Rebecca first in flashbacks before she lands in town.

Season 3 of The Vampire Diaries premieres on September 15.
