This should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone who watches The CW: The Vampire Diaries has been renewed for a third season. The Vampire Diaries quickly skyrocketed to the top of the small network's ratings in its first season and has consistently held the ratings title ever since. Currently in its second season, The Vampire Diaries proves to be consistently good and addicting television.
Starring Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley (and a slew of other talented actors), The Vampire Diaries is based on the book series by L.J. Smith. It revolves around a girl named Elena, who, when the series began, had recently lost her parents. Living with her aunt and brother, she became attracted to a new boy in town: Stefan Salvatore. But Stefan - and his wild brother Damon - were actually vampires. Elena and her friends - including the pretty Caroline and witchy Bonnie - soon became embroiled in the supernatural. As the series has progressed, we've lost some characters (such as Vicki), others have been turned into vampires (Caroline), Bonnie's powers have grown, and many characters who had previously been in the dark about the supernatural elements in Mystic Falls have been exposed to them (Matt and Aunt Jenna).
This is great news for fans of The Vampire Diaries. Creator Kevin Williamson also recently wrapped up the shooting of a pilot called The Secret Circle, which is also based on a book series by L.J. Smith. Could the two similar shows be paired up in the Fall? We'll have to wait and see.
