We got a few spoilers for the third season of The Vampire Diaries from the Comic-Con press room and panel (read more here), but there are more to be read! To keep you up to date, we've put together a little spoiler round-up.
The Originals
It's no secret that we'll be learning more about Klaus and Elijah's family of original vampires in season 3, but EW has gotten a few more details from Joseph Morgan as to exactly what kind of information we'll be getting on this family: “We get a chance to go back and see the point where they became vampires and where the curse was placed on Klaus to suppress his hybrid nature, his hybrid side. It’ll be interesting when we introduce other originals who are possibly equally as powerful or have some sort of emotional hold over Klaus … to see what that brings out of him.”
In other words, I'm expect some serious flashbacks to times gone by. If the writers handle the Originals' story anything like Katherine's backstory, I think we're in for a treat, especially if it gives us a chance to see Elijah again.
Episode 3.02
Comic-Con gave us a few details about the season 3 premiere (which will feature Elena's birthday), but Nina Dobrev let it slip to EW that episode 3.02 will have Alaric and Elena taking a "a sweaty, rugged adventure together". The pair will continue to bond and I think we'll definitely see Alaric step into a big brother role with Elena and Jeremy, which sort of started in the finale when he stayed at their house. The producers may have said that the Gilberts don't need guardians anymore since Jenna is dead and Elena has turned 18, but I think Alaric is a good grown-up role model for them.
New Guest Stars
You might remember Jack Coleman has Mr. Horn-Rimmed Glasses from NBC's Heroes. TV Guide has revealed that he'll be appearing in an episode of The Vampire Diaries. He'll be playing a guest star named Bill who is "a former resident of Mystic Falls who returns home with a dangerous point of view about vampires."
TV Line also said that a vampire slayer sort of character will appear in the third season. This character named Eric "is a middle-aged hottie who, from what I hear, is sorta like Indiana Jones with a stake instead of a whip".
Season 3 of The Vampire Diaries will premiere on Thursday, September 15 on The CW. To view the trailer shown during Comic-Com (complete with a risque little scene at the end between Damon and Elena from season 3), click here.
