Vampires are now the hot thing in pop culture, so obviously they're a major presence on television. HBO's True Blood and the CW's Vampire Diaries are both the biggest shows on their respective networks. True Blood, currently in the midst of its third season, was one of the beginning influences of the new fad, while The Vampire Diaries, which just finished its first season, can be seen as a show that rode on the waves of the new popularity. That's nothing against either show, of course, but they're both very different, despite their similar subject matter.
Now, the star of one of those shows wants a crossover.
Nina Dobrev, who plays the protagonist Elena on The Vampire Diaries, wants the character Eric Northman from True Blood to appear on The Vampire Diaries. Eric, portrayed by Alexander Skarsgard, is one of the most popular characters on True Blood, and has become the resident sex symbol for the show. Dobrev, however, only wants Eric on the show so that they could "be together."
"He's not on The Vampire Diaries," she told MTV. "I already get to play with those boys [co-stars Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder] on set... as Elena and Katherine, so it would be fun... to be with the bad boy on True Blood."
So she's not looking for a rich story opportunity? "[To merge the two shows] would be fun!"
Now, since this is only Dobrev talking, the chances of this happening are probably nonexistant. In my humble opinion, I would not like to see a cross-pollenation between the two shows. Crossovers can be fun, but when they're between two shows like this, it seems more like a cheap marketing ploy than an actual story opportunity. And since Eric likes to be naked on True Blood often, a crossover would probably be full of schlocky camera cuts or Austin Powers-esque near misses.
I agree, and it wouldn't make sense at all, since in True Blood, the vampires "came out of the coffin", while they're still hiding in the Vampires Diaries world…

Vampire Diaries has nothing on True Blood. Why would Alexander Skarsgard want to take a giant step backward by appearing on that stupid show?
Actually, True Blood has nothing on the Vampire Diaries. So Alexander Skarsgard should stay right where he is so he doesn't interfere.

Both shows have hot men!!! That's the reason why I watch both. Also the two shows have opposite schedules. So when TB is on break I watch VD, and vice versa.

True Blood is rubbish! The Vampire Diaries would be ruined if it had a crossover with True Blood! The shows are too different!
Each show has thier own thing going on. Niether one is better than the other. So to be fighting over a television show is kind of stupid.
Crossovers may be fun, but Eric is a True Blood character and should stay that way. Dream on Nina…
