Season 5 of ‘The Voice‘ concluded with a massive production that included Lady Gaga, Celine Dion, and more last night. Tessanne Chin was crowned, in what seemed like an obvious conclusion, as the season’s winner. Chin had repeatedly been the top download on iTunes for weeks making the season a foregone conclusion for weeks. Overall, it was a highly entertaining season, but the end result could be seen for weeks making it slightly disappointing.
As for the two-hour show last night, it was filled with terrific performances from the final three, past performers, and superstars in the industry. The internet is abuzz this morning with Tessanne Chin’s collaboration with Celine Dion of “Love Can Move Mountains”. One Republic performed their hit single “I Lived” and Lady Gaga teamed up with Christina Aguilera in one of the more awkward performances you will ever see to perform “Do What You Want”.
The best part of the show was the three finalists inviting back past performers to do one final song. The best performances of the night came during these fun-filled collaborations. For our money, “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Jacquie Lee, Matthew Schuler, Cole Vosbury, James Wolpert, and Caroline Pennell was terrific. We also thoroughly enjoyed Tessanne Chin, James Wolpert, Preston Pohl, Grey and Olivia Henken performing Sam and Dave’s “Hold On (I’m Coming)”. How awesome is Preston Pohl? That guy should have hung around the show longer. These collaboration performances confirmed that James Wolpert and Preston Pohl are going to make it in music even though they didn’t win the finals.
Congratulations to Tessanne Chin for winning season 5. Did anyone notice that Tessanne was the only one wearing an earpiece as Carson Daly announced the winner? Dead give away that she was going to be performing OneRepublic’s new song? Overall, great season. Season 6 will kick off in February with Shakira and Usher replacing Cee Lo and Christina.
