Breaking up is apparently pretty expensive these days, just ask The Voice’s latest coach Shakira. Turns out singer come reality star has been hit with a $100 million lawsuit courtesy of ex-boyfriend Antonia de La Rua on the grounds that he claims that he was responsible for the “Shakira brand” and her hits such as “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Waka Waka” were his ideas.
Interestingly enough this is the second suit. De la Rua had initially filed the suit for $250 million against Shakira in New York last November. Shakira’s attorneys were able to sink that claim procedurally by filing for a dismissal on the grounds that the court did not have jurisdiction over her, as well as naming other faults in his suit.
Shakira is dismissing the charge out of hand essentially claiming that he status in entertainment was well cemented when she first met de la Rua at a concert in Argentina in 2000.
