The Walking Dead is amazing. Have I mentioned that? I've seen the first two episodes of AMC's new horror series (one of the few actual horror shows on TV), and they're phenomenal. When the show premieres on October 31, I'll be sticking with it, and you should too. Frank Darabont certainly is.
The Shawshank Redemption director is helming the new series, which is based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, which centers on a group of survivors following a zombie apocalypse. Darabont, who is also known for directing films like The Green Mile and The Mist (all three of which are based upon Stephen King stories). Darabont's prowess as a director is quite visible through "Days Gone Bye," the first episode of the series, which Darabont directs.
Now, The Walking Dead hasn't been renewed for a second season yet (though signs are pointing that it certainly will, if fan hype pays off in viewership). However, Darabont will stick around if it does. "I want to stick with it... as long as I possibly can," he toldĀ Blastr. "I didn't get into it to set it in motion and then wave goodbye as other people sail down the canal. I don't want to be an absentee landlord. I want to keep my hands in the thing I am really loving doing."
The director is still currently working on post-production for the show's first season: "I'm in LA really wrapping up post. I'm at the tail-end of the marathon, so having conversations about what the coming season might be, we ain't even gotten there. If it gets picked up, those conversations will begin extremely in earnest in January."
The Walking Dead is set to premiere October 31 on AMC as the conclusion to the network's FearFest event, which began Monday night.
