The Walking Dead: Rick Won't Lose His Hand, Says Creator

The Walking Dead‘s been known to deviate from its original source material. The AMC series, adapted from the comic book of the same name, made some major changes to the storyline in its first season when it avoided killing off the character of Shane, who died after six issues of the comic. Now, comic creator and television writer Robert Kirkman has stated that there’s one more deviation he really wants to make: “One thing I’m adamant about is I don’t think that we should cut Rick’s hand off [on television].”

Kirkman told reporters that he doesn’t think he made the right decision when he had the sadistic Governor (a main antagonist in the comic series) chop off Rick’s hand. “When I’m writing a comic book, I don’t think about what I’m doing. I go, ‘Oh, it’d be pretty cool if they cut his hand off right now. That’d be pretty shocking, right?’. Then I do it, and five issues later, I write ‘Rick opens a can of beans’ and then I look at the script and think ‘He can’t do that now’. I didn’t even think that through.”

The Walking Dead will begin its second season on AMC in October. Check out the official trailer here.
