While most AMC-heads are gasping for more Breaking Bad, some of us have already started jonesing for a Walking Dead fix. For those of you who are like me and longing for more zombies, I've got good news and I've got bad news.
The good news? Paleyfest 2011 is going on, and yesterday's The Walking Dead panel was both entertaining and informative about the show. Unfortunately, the bad news comes in there: we're going to be waiting quite a few months for the next new episode of The Walking Dead.
Shooting for season two will start in May, according to Darabont. That's just two months from now, so we don't have a lot to fret about, right? Wrong. We'll have to wait a further five months for the show's second season to hit AMC, since Darabont announced that the second season would be premiering in October.
Hopes had been that the premiere of the show would be pushed forward to this autumn to make room for the thirteen-episode order. Now, it seems, we'll either see a run straight through into early 2012, or we'll see a split season that will have starts in October 2011 and January 2012.
It all seems so far away, doesn't it? So far away...
If they plan out the return just right, the finale would be on Christmas. I'm not sure how many people would actually watch it on that day, but it’s kind of ironic if you think about it. Season one premiered on Halloween and season two could end on Christmas. I actually hope they will do a Christmas episode, not like zombie Santas or anything. But have it set during the season, I’m pretty sure they did that in the comic.
But anyways, there’s no way it’s returning on Halloween, because that's a Monday this year. And AMC only airs new episodes of shows on Sundays. So if anything, it's coming back October 30th, but hopefully closer to the beginning of the month.

Cant wait! If anything season 2 should be at its most suspense filled episodes around Halloween, not Begin the season there. It makes no sense to begin a horror season at the end of Halloween of all days. If I had a say in air dates, July. Then you have 3 months of Zombies, people/fans talking about Zombies, and then on Halloween Dressing as Zombies….. I'm I the only one that feels this way?
Micheal, they do not just decide on a whim when the season starts. It takes MONTHS to make a very good show. They cannot make a whole season in one month. Simply getting the right weather can take a while. Then there is the CGI blood, and other editing which add more time.

Costco would be easy to defend, as long as it was closed before infestation. Nice roll down doors, no windows. The downside is that it's built like a tomb, easy access to the roof might help.
The costcos in my area are setup like an island, I could see that with a sea of dead heads outside, great film value, not good for breathers.

costco would be a good idea if not everyone and there mother had that idea, i say go to the most hot sunny place and chill there, the heat would let the zombies rot faster unlike a place like canada where winter is crazy cold, that would keep the zombies from rotting fast.

As amazing as this show is, waiting forever for it to return could end the show with a huge loss of impatient fans.

The show is too good to lose fans. Hopefully people can wait a bit longer. Think of it as asking for a raise at work. lol I would really hate the ratings to drop & they cancel the show like they did FlashForward on another network.
If flash forward was on ABC, and I believe it was, it explains why it was cancelled. They never give any new programming much of a chance unless it explodes immediately. That's why I refuse to get sucked in by almost anything they air.
Anyone that drops this show, deserves to be lost! I have been throwing around the paperbacks, hardbacks, and yes the omnibuses of the comic since this show since it was announced. Perfection takes time..so give them that!
well this seems to happen to all good shows. another good zombie show like this (if your into anime) is High School of the Dead amazing but the director, artist, etc decided to go on break for a year……seems to me this happens allot w/ other good show too that eventually lead to an early cancel i.e Firefly

I don't mind waiting as long as the quality and integrity of the film relative to the books are not compromised.
I don't think it would lose too many fans. I mean come on it's f*cking awesome o_o and totally original, if people give up just cause they gotta wait a lil bit, then IMO they aren't true fans.
Hell I wait almost a year for the return of True Blood and as bad as waiting sucks (;P) it's totally worth it to watch something so awesome, it's the exact way I feel about The Walking Dead. It's plenty awesome enough to wait for. :)

I totally agree! Its not the Walking Dead's fault that the date isn't until October… there are so many shows that can be played at a time on AMC! If the year long wait makes the Walking Dead Season 2 that much of better then I say so be it! I loved the first season and I'm sure that I'll love the 2nd too! Those that don't want to wait to see the second season, you will see it anyways because that day will hit us whether we want it to or not. The wait will be worth it and I hope that they make the premier a 2 hour showing!

This Is not "just like any other zombie flick" This story isnt really even about the zombies… its about what a person/people would do, and what they would become in such an adverse situation. Read the comics and you will understand. This story is much more than your average punchline and scare tactic zombie tale. When (And I say this with confidence that this show will make it this far and further) season four comes out go back and watch the first season… you will barely recognize Rick (along with other characters), physically, mentally, and emotionally. There is times in this story that you will hate Rick and other times that you will love him. There is so much emphasis on constant character development that you really feel for the people this story is based around.
It also is a story to help us question our very own position in society and help to bring to light our own short comings on a personal level.
Keep watching and you will understand…

WHOA!! You must not be a true horror fan. I love horror, especially zombie flicks. The fact that they created a series that is better than alot of movies speaks volumes about the writers and cast. If you really forgot season one, than buy it!! The series is worth owning, that is if you're a true fan. If you're not then dont waste your time and ours writing about the show. I for one cant wait for season two. I dont care if it takes until oct 2012 i will be watching.
The reason for the short season is most likely because it was the first season. Companies rarely invest vast amount of money for a first season as they don't know if it will be successful or not. As much as these companies may like entertainment, money is also a massive factor. Thus they generally have a pilot, if that works they will have say 6ep's then the next season if its successful enough may get more such as 12ep's.
I am sure that there will also be something else of entertainment, whether it be another series of something, a pub, social life etc to keep us all going till the next season launches, I wish it would come sooner too but as they say in Ireland "Good things come to those who wait"

Amazes me all the whiners, Let them do their job and film the 2nd season, When its complete we will all surely watch it regardless if it takes a year to come out. I would rather wait a while for a good product then to have them rush it and have a very poor 2nd season. Sure the first season was rather short but in a way they were bringing a new product to television with the whole Zombie thing and I am sure they didn't want to put alot of money into a new concept for tv till they tested the market with a short 1st season and a little longer off time to build up some anticipation. Can't Wait till season 2!
You tell'em. It is a great show & they are trying to make it better. I even got my 24yr old son hooked on it. At first he was skeptical but when he watch it he was hooked. LOL I told him so.

I agree with you Casey, I don't think anyone will stay away once season 2 airs, because they took too long. I have not read the the books as of yet, I didnt even know these stories existed untill about a month before the Searies aired. I was told from a freind that there is a lot of character building and transformations through the series and I would appreciate the story lines.
I had a few friends over one evening (not zombie fans) and had them sit through the first episode with me. ^ hours later I finally got them out of my house after sitting through the whole season, and they ask me every few weeks when season 2 is starting.

Best we can do is petition the network and keep hounding them for more. I am not sure with all the time they have had that they haven't started filming. The Walking Dead, if it stays true to the comic, could last a very long time… there is so much material for them to use. I am sure they have their reasons for waiting, but they should note how popular the show became in just 6 episodes.

although it is great that they are going to make another season it seams like they may have drug their feet a bit on getting the second season in gear. so they are either going for a big opening or they were not sure if they were going to make a second season.either way i think it will have a negative effect on the shows performance.

My family and I come from a long line of zombie nutz.my youngest son and I have seen and acquired every zombie movie we could get our hands on.from the oldest,the newest,the greats and even worst.but none have prepared us for this newest and greatest experience yet.we even went and bought the first season to integrate this show into our video library.had to add a new shelf to accommodate for new seasons.so I say to AMC! WOw WOW wow WOW, as a fan in the uk channel 5 over here has just aired episode 3 of the first series, and im sorry i couldnt wait, so i downloaded the others from the us AND WOW, this is the best e=series on tv IN YEARS!!!! the end of the last episode where the old man wont leave the girl hes kind of adopted almost had me in tears, that hasnt happenned in years witha tv episode of anything, the emotion content and charter emotion in this series trancends the sunject matter and shows that we are all human no matter what the situation, the mistakes the erpils the pitfalls and what moist counts, the ones youre with, WOW no series in the last ten years has had this much unsurpassed charter content and emotional ties with humanity and hi current situation, PLEASE GIVE US MANY MORE SERIES, 5 or 7 should do the trick, please keep up the good work, and if you execs from the show makers are reading this PLEASE this show is the best show regardless of content, subject in years, I LOVE ZOMBIES but its the characters and emotional content that counts and this delivers in spades, CANT WAIT FOR SEAQSON "
As a huge fan of zombie type movies, its been hard to find a movie let alone a tv show that i liked. Most zombie movies just plain suck! So now that ive found the walking dead season 1 and took a chance on buying it, im glad that i did. this is a awesome show and i want more please dont leave us fans hanging for to long. Regardless of where things go from here, in my opinion the first season was the best I have ever seen on television. The whisper was a great touch, maybe a nuclear strike, or bio weapon follow up? I agree with Mike above that the zombie market is huge and hasn't been done with respect beyond Dawn of the Dead (the new one), and Quarantine (most realistic zombie film / outbreak scenario). I am a fan of Romero for starting the genre, but his films seem more based in politics and feeling sorry for the zombie, rather than a realistic cross section of a biological apocolypse. Here the people are fighting for a bag of guns rather than a zombie retirement home. In the case of the human element in the return of Amy there was an opportunity for the quality to drop like a rock, but the team pulled it off better than any Emmy performance I've seen.
Don't know about the zombies using rocks to break open the glass doors. I don't think the stem of the brain would allow for that level of comprehension, but then the inclusion of detail regarding the re-activation of the stem is what makes this a believable story, rather than a cheap form of entertainment. Great job everyone, now don't let some random producer ruin the ball you have started rolling!

i agree with nearly everything you just stated! especially the whole zombies using rocks bit. except… the remake of down of the dead was mearly an okay movie. it would have been better off having it's own name seeing that the story was barely in line with the original. plus, fast zombies are pretty lame to watch. which is what i like about the walking dead. slow zombies, one or two at a time is nothing an average joe cant handle but a horde of the undead and you better be running! also quarantine was a super lame movie. it was an advanced form of rabis, not zombies. and i cant recall a single moment in any of Romero's flicks that i felt sorry for the zombies.
in any case, the walking dead season two will most likely be a huge hit and even if you try to boycott it because you couldn't wait for it than most of you will probably fail. you watched the first season and loved it enough to get on her and post about the second so chances are when its finally on TV, you'll tune in for sure. BECAUSE ITS AWESOME!!!!!

The Walking Dead is MOVIE / CINEMA quality. This isn't CSI … this is the stuff dreams are made of. Of course it is going to take time. I understand that teh typical tv viewer doesn't appreciate this above the standard tv movie quality but the characters need to be developed and the plot needs to thicken. If you want quick turn around then watch ER or Grey's Anatomy. I appreciate the work that producers and directors are putting into this. They have a large budget but it's the characters that make it all so important. So, stop complaining. I actually don't watch tv. This is the first series I've seen in nearly 10 years because it is Zombie madness that just doesn't stop. Patience people, if you want instant gratification go to McDonald's…

This has been a long wait I am now bored of the DVR season 1 and I can deleate them. I love dead come back to life shows.
the hiatus worked for mythbusters as well as breaking bad. so you never know. it may work in favor if they run the first season with a hint of what to expect of season two.
This show challenges lost in value. I want more zombies. Lets face it, there is something magical about z apocalypse. Be sure to get your survival guide for season 2. Max Brooks has been gracious enough to provide us with a solid brochure. Remember titanium crow bar and semi carbine.

Taking too long to show it makes me mad. Also can not be good for the show itself either. People will start not caring any more. Or even just forget about it. What I like about the Walking Dead is that it is so original especially compared to all the vampire tv series out there right now, not that I have anything against them (I am a big vamp fan along with a huge zombie fan) it's a nice change in things

Here is the point alot of people above missed. Reguardless, AMC needs to give the fans what they want…a Summer 2011 July release date. We all loved the first season and would LOVE to see the second one already…taunting your FanBase only leads to negative feedback towards the show. OVERALL, instead of winning the October Fear Fest which would be done easily with this show…AMC should release season two over the summer and make it a SUMMER HIT which would attract a wide variety of fans…..Im sick of waiting -,- GIVE THE FANS WHAT THEY WANT…

Strike while the Iron is hot…we've all been waiting since November. I know modern TV, is all about spoiled people, reality shows, crying fat guys who have to walk a mile, and people who go on talks shows to admit they sleep with their relatives, but G*D D@MN!! AMC is supposed to be less main stream. This will be a good show if they treat the fans to what we asked for. I don't blame Frank Darabont, if he'd been given a green light to start shooting season two at the end of last season, we'd have all been watching sooner. Other Networks are picking-up on the whole post apocalypse world, genre, an example is Falling Sky, those producers had to have seen the ratings for the Premiere of the Walking dead. What I am saying is there is an interest, it should be fed frequently, cause like the "Walking Dead" the fans are ravenous for more surviving humans.
I'm so glad that season 2 is coming. It took them long enough to put it in action, though.

love zombies only 13 and have read all the comics and seen season 1 but cant get why there always traveling and never trying to establish a home base.

I sooo can't wait until season 2 comes out I went & bought season 1 an I so can't wait to see where they head next? I PERSONNLY think they will head to France because the doc said they where the last once to hold out so it will deferentially be interesting. An I will love to see what happen between Shane, Lori an Grimes. :)
I think we all need to be patient. All throughout high school I've worked with theater, and small high school plays take a lot of time and effort. A big, hit tv series most definitely requires more time and effort. Like I've waited with Breaking Bad, I'm going to be confident that the second season will be as good if not better than season one. I'm very excited though!

Im pissed off at AMC this is so stupid they could have started filming this early this year instead of dragging it out and if they have a split season i will really be mad what is wrong with these people at amc. all i know is it better not go the way of Jericho that was my all time favorite thats gone now and now that im getting hooked on the walking dead they better keep it on for several seasons
Costco would be easy to defend, as long as it was closed before infestation. Nice roll down doors, no windows. The downside is that it’s built like a tomb, easy access to the roof might help.
