The Walking Dead hasn't lost a major character throughout its second season -- and, it might be argued, throughout its whole run. Fans of the comic know that deaths (and lots of them) are coming, but so far, we haven't really seen any. Sure, the series killed off the sort-of major character Amy in last year's "Vatos," and a bunch of the minor survivors have been offed since then. You might argue that little Sophia's finally-revealed death at the end of "Pretty Much Dead Already" counts as a major death. I don't.
But it appears that another main character might be written off the show sometime in season two. Spoilers follow, naturally, but it appears that Jon Bernthal's character Shane might just be leaving the show by the time the series wraps up its second season.
Bernthal is reportedly in talks to star in Frank Darabont's new series L.A. Noir. Darabont, who brought The Walking Dead to television last year before being fired by AMC earlier this year, is developing the new drama with TNT and is reportedly in early stages of nabbing Bernthal as the lead in the period drama. And you know what that means -- Bernthal is back on the market.
It seems likely that Bernthal will be leaving. The situation on the set of the series is reportedly toxic for the actors involved. There's also the fact that Shane's been looking down the metaphoric gun barrel for a long time -- his character was killed off in the comic book series long ago, and the television character is simply living on borrowed time. With tensions between him and Rick reaching an all-time high, it seems more than likely that Shane won't last for very much longer (probably the season 2 finale).
What do you think? Is Bernthal leaving for greener pastures, or am I barking up the wrong tree? Let me know in the comments section.
The Walking Dead returns February 12 with the midseason premiere "Nebraska" on AMC.
They should kill them all off.
Why doesn't it seem possible to any of you that he might want to do these two jobs side by side? And he could just as easily reject the offer because of his attachment to WD as he could ding-dong-ditch the show.
wow that would be toxic. Shane is the only one with balls in this show. If he goes, so will i. why not rick or dale. tdogg for that matter, but Shane. come on now.
im rather certain Geoff Bean Young will be the next character killed off the show. In the comic book is he caught by Shane giving filatio to one of the transvestite african american walkers.
But hasnt Bean Young always been a zombie? I don't think blowing black trannies make you human again
I hope not. hes my fav actor on this show. Its true he is the only one on the show that has balls..and also he makes a super shady character that keeps things interesting.
Ok am I just being stupid here, who is geoff bean young? Is that the actors name? I can’t find anything on him and I don’t remember him.
its made-up Kitten. there is no Geoff Bean Young. unless i missed the subtext. I just read through the Walking Dead my second time and the most you get in sexual depravity is the Governor's zombified slave which disgustingly is a little girl, Michonne's torture and the whole deal with the rapist in the prison ward. Don't know anything about black zombie trannys, an attempt at humor I'm waging
if only they'd stuck to their guns and had Shane meet his demise just like comic, I feel like that would have added a much needed weight to the characters in the show, especially the son who's yet to really cement himself as being mini-Rick Grimes like in the comic, hat and gun in tow. That was honestly one of my top 5 moments of the whole comic. For all you casual fans of the show, I can honestly not encourage you enough to at least check out volumes 1-4 of Walking Dead, they're truly incredible works of art.
No way, I can’t believe they are killing Geoff bean young off, I loved the part in the comic where he claims not to be gay and is caught giving head to the black tranny zombie.
I totally agree; that is my major gripe about the series: stick to the source material!
Having not read the comics and basing my comment on watching the show, for me it would be a shame for Shane to leave, he's a strong character.
I could do without Rick's wife. An iceberg. Though I would love to see that super wimp panty waist Glen become zombie food
if they kill shane its over everyone dies
The entire cast is a bit annoying except for Michael Rooker and where the hell is he and his good hand?
i love me some black tranny zombie cock!
To people who don't know, there are trolls here. There is no zombie trannies, and there is no one giving head to zombies. Such idiots! I don't care if Shane is killed off, he is in the book, so he should go in the show. He's dangerous and too much of a hot head. Rick proved he can do what needs to be done, but he also cares as well. Shane would kill anyone to save himself or those he loves. If your not screwing him, or if your not super close to him, he would leave you in a heartbeat, or kill you at the first sign of any weakness.
I also want to make a comment about the compaints of some people about not enough zombie action. This is an epic show, it's about the people as well. This is not Night of the Living Dead, or just an every day zombie movie. I think these kind of complaints come from the same type of people who get off on lame slasher films. Shallow or stupid people will only want all zombie action and no substance.
