The CW Picks Up 4 Pilots

Deadline.com is reporting that The CW has picked up four pilots, including three that are variations on medical/cop/law procedurals. The four that were picked up are as follows: Awakening, centering on a sibling rivalry amidst a zombie apocalypse; Hart of Dixie, a comedic drama from Josh Schwartz that finds a big city doctor opening a small town practice; Heavenly, about a young female lawyer teaming up with a former angel; and Cooper & Stone, sort of a Gilmore Girls-meets-buddy cop show.

These four join off cycle pilot Danni Lowinski as potential shows to take over the spots left open by Life Unexpected and Smallville. It's strange to see the network go after procedural-ish shows, but as you could guess, these don't seem to fit the stuffy, super serious stereotype of what a procedural is. Though President Dawn Ostroff made the decisions of what to pick up, she's leaving the network this year, so it's hard to tell if this is a sign of a new direction for The CW. Whatever it is, I'm looking forward to seeing the tone that these shows take and if one of them has what it takes to be the next flagship show for the struggling network.

Do any of these pilots sound like a good fit for The CW? Would they go with any of the other shows currently on the network? How do you like the change in direction?

  1. Got my eye on CW pilot in the works, a show that is centering on a sibling rivalry amidst a zombie apocalypse!

I like the sound of Heart of Dixie, The Secret Circle and Ringer.   Ringer is the one that I will be wondering if there will be any of the Buffy cast on the show.   I was hoping that Metropolis could be the continuation of Smallville.
