Well boys and girls, we may have just seen another casualty of that wicked disease known as CANCELLATION. Three Rivers, CBS' freshman medical drama, has just been removed from the network's schedule, effective immediately. That's probably just as bad as it sounds.
The series, which premiered back in October with a fairly good 9.17 million viewers, has dwindled in the ratings slightly but still maintains roughly 8 million viewers per week. That's much better than many shows do, but that didn't keep CBS from putting it "on hiatus." And while that hiatus is currently indefinite, CBS is also allowing the show to complete the filming of its entire thirteen-episode first season.
While Three Rivers, which revolved around transplant doctors and the dramatic decisions which stem from organ donation, wasn't the network's most popular new show (that would be NCIS: Los Angeles), the show was not hurting for viewers, and was certainly doing better than much of it's other competition, such as NBC's Trauma, which was recently un-cancelled by the network.
What CBS plans to do with the remaining order of episodes is unknown -- the show has already been replaced in its Sunday timeslot by reruns of Cold Case, Criminal Minds, and NCIS: Los Angeles. It certainly seems like Three Rivers is a goner, but it could always be brought back as a summer series, or something of that sort. What do you think will happen to this once-promising show? Sound off below!
unbelievable… you’d rather have dumb reality and other mindless/no brain needed shows than keep on something that is entertaining and interesting. I guess if it isn’t some bloody gore, mindless killing, plain outright stupidity or lack of social mores being shown it is not worth it??? unreal… just when you get hooked on really wanting to watch something, they pull it off the schedule…just what is the forethought behind scheduling and viewer expectations? Seems to me a lot of people were looking forward to each new segment and now what??? thanks. no wonder more and more are going to cable channels…

First Numb3rs gets cut down to half this season and now Three Rivers is going to disappear? Remind me why I bother watching CBS again? Silly me, I thought Three Rivers could be my Numb3rs replacement since I would be missing that show, but now I will be missing both! And I agree, having Three Rivers start late a few times certainly didn’t help it — how are you supposed to know when to watch it if you turn the TV on at the right time and something else is on instead?
