Torchwood: Miracle Day to Air in U.K. Six Days After U.S. Broadcast

The BBC has announced that it will premiere the new series of Torchwood, subtitled Miracle Day, on July 14. That's a full six days after the Doctor Who spinoff makes its American debut on July 8 on Starz. This is in heavy contrast, naturally, to the two week delay that occurred with Torchwood: Children of the Earth -- though, last time, the delay was from the UK to the US.

The show, which this year is a joint production between the BBC and Starz, will feature a plotline in which no one on earth is able to die. Naturally, disaster erupts, and it's up to Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and the rest of the Torchwood crew to figure out just what's happening.

While I'm unsure just how many American Torchwood fans would be willing to splurge for Starz just for the one show, I still think that the delay is one that UK fans should accept. After all, Starz is paying for a good portion of the show's budget this season, meaning that we get to see cool things like a helicopter exploding.

The viewership for this show on both sides of the Atlantic should be interesting to watch. We'll keep you posted.

Torchwood: Miracle Day will air on July 8 on Starz in the US and on July 14 on the BBC in the UK.

This is nothing to do with Starz paying most of the costs, just idiotic scheduling. Even Australia, who contributed nothing to the production of the show, are getting it on the 9th IIRC. And "the delay is one that UK fans should accept" is a bit hypocritical coming from the guy who wrote this article http://www.tvovermind.com/cable/bbc-america/do

    • It is a bit hypocritical, you've got me there. But then again, my article about Doctor Who's delay was more about BBC America starting us off with this new same-day airing thing, and then taking it away from us. There were no such promises made with Torchwood. So you can look at it two ways.

The best way to look at it is that there probably won't be a ton of people watching it in America, because I don't think a lot of people have Starz (unverified fact). So UK viewers will see it before most US ones.
