Betty White on True Blood nudity: “I wish I had a dog that could do that.”

Octogenarians aren't usually the top pick for talk show circuits or comedy routines, but White is very much in the public limelight, and maintains it with class and a good sense of humor.

White was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night, and her follow-up was Sam Trammell, who plays Sam Merlotte on HBO's True Blood. Leno then decided to show a clip of Trammell from the series, in which he transforms from a dog into his naked human form.

Trammell apologized to White for having to watch that, afraid that he might have offended her sensibilities.

"Oh, I loved it," she cracked, drawing laughs from the audience. "I wish I had a dog that could do that."

While White probably doesn't watch True Blood, seeing two such different parts of pop culture collide was both messy and somewhat incredibly gratifying. Why hasn't this happened already? I found myself asking.

Also in the interview, Trammell discussed his nude scenes on the show, stating that the application of make-up before the shoot requires a lot of concentration -- mainly because of the attractive women who apply the make-up. "He focuses on the surf videos he has playing to avoid thinking about the fact that a beautiful woman is rubbing his body," said Entertainment Weekly's Mandi Bierly, quipping, "I’m calling it now: True Blood makeup artist — best job in Hollywood."

Trammell's character has been through what has universally been described as a "slow" storyline this season, a drastic change from his major role in last season's maenad storyline. In season three, Sam Merlotte has mainly been dealing with his newfound family, who rely on his shapeshifting brother to fight in dogfights. In the most recent episode, "Hitting the Ground," Sam went undercover as a dog himself to rescue his brother.

True Blood's next episode, "Night on the Sun," airs Sunday, August 8 at 9/8c on HBO.
