Thank god he came out and did this, because these True Detective rumors were starting to get too ridiculous to function. Showrunner Nic Pizzolatto has come and said that everything you think you know about casting for True Detective season two is wrong, and every “source” is a lie.
“Literally, not a single rumor about casting that has been printed anywhere has any truth to it whatsoever,” Pizzolatto said at a press conference at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. “I mean that literally. I’ve seen entertainment reporters say ‘My sources say . . . ‘ There are no sources. There’s me and two other guys and they don’t even know what I’m doing.”
So that includes far-fetched rumors like Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain being approached, and the whole “archetype” idea in general where characters are said to be based on actors like Christian Bale or Josh Brolin. Even the idea of a “female-led” season may not be true, according to Pizzolatto.
“Again, it’s a rumor with no basis in fact,” Pizzolatto says. “There is a strong (lead) female character. But I wouldn’t say it is female-led or anything like that.”
Pizzolatto also said that he doesn’t see the show going beyond three seasons, meaning it won’t turn into one of HBO’s long-running properties. That said, anything can happen when bales of money are being hurled your way.
