2009 Fall Preview: “Gossip Girl”

2uzbafaPremiering on Monday, September 14 at 9:00 p.m. E.T. on The CW.

We’re all whispering something about season 3 of Gossip Girl, aren’t we? We’re all saying to ourselves “but the quality of the show always starts to suck when the high school students head off to college”. This happens all the time, right? It happened to the original 90210, it happened to Dawson’s Creek and even Saved By the Bell. We’re especially worried when the characters go to different colleges, which is what will be happening in Gossip Girl. Serena’s headed to Brown while Blair, Vanessa, Dan and Georgina are heading to NYU. Nate will be heading to Columbia (thanks to Korey below!). Jenny and Eric still have to finish up at Constance and St. Jude’s and Jenny will reign as the new queen of Constance. Nate and Dan are headed to Yale (I think…..I honestly can’t remember, so correct me in the comments below). And what’s up with Chuck? Is he taking over Bass Industries? Why can’t I remember this?? [It seems that everyone except Serena will remain in NYC for college. Maybe something will happen to Serena and she’ll decide not to go to Brown, which means everyone will stay in the city].

When we last left our upper-east-siders, Serena had jetted off to Europe with Carter Baizen, supposedly to find her missing father. Blair and Chuck had finally admitted their feelings for one another and had, as one hopes but secretly prays isn’t true, settled down to domestic bliss (we pray it isn’t true because we love them so much more when they’re waging a sarcastic war against each other). Georgina Sparks resurfaced and is set to become Blair’s NYU roommate. Lily and Rufus got engaged, while Nate, Dan and Vanessa met Scott, but they aren’t aware that he is Lily and Rufus’ secret child.

We have a few new cast members for season 3 (SPOILERS!). Hillary Duff will appear in several episodes as a famous actress who wants to try to have a normal college experience. Gina Torres (Firefly, Serenity, Angel: The Series) will join the cast as Vanessa’s mother and Joanna Garcia (Privileged) will appear as Nate’s new girlfriend. She and Nate will have a Romeo and Juliet type relationship, as their families are very different and will do whatever it takes to keep them apart. (END SPOILERS!)

Here’s what The CW has to say about the season 3 premiere:

GOSSIP GIRL RETURNS! – As the summer is drawing to a close, Blair (Leighton Meester) and Chuck (Ed Westwick) are madly in love and adjusting to their new ‘in a relationship’status, breaking all traditional rules of dating as would be expected. Serena (Blake Lively) returns from her European adventure with many secrets to hide and a complicated relationship with Carter Baizen (guest star Sebastian Stan). Nate (Chace Crawford) returns from his travels with a mysterious brunette, Bree Buckley (guest star JoAnna Garcia) in tow. Rufus (Matthew Settle), Dan (Penn Badgley) and Jenny (Taylor Momsen) spent the summer in the Hamptons, adjusting to the van der Woodsen’s glamorous lifestyle surprisingly faster than any of them expected. Jessica Szohr also stars. J. Miller Tobin directed the episode written by Joshua Safran (#301).

To wet your appetite, below is a trailer for season 3. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m going to take my chances that this show will still rock with the kids off in college.
