You read it right folks, one of most influential women in media and co-founder of the liberal news website The Huffington Post, Arianna Huffington, has an idea for a sitcom, and ABC's buying it! ABC has purchased the rights to a multicamera sitcom idea of Huffington's and they're serious enough about it to bring in Friends and How I Met Your Mother Executive Producer Greg Malins to develop the project.
While most of us wouldn't consider the world of politics to be such a laughing matter, Malins disagrees. The show will be about three new members to the House of Representatives who share an apartment in the D.C. area. Apparently this is a common thing for new members of congress to do, though I wouldn't expect the living arrangements to be co-ed in real life. You see, in the new sitcom the three new members consist of two men and one woman.
"One is swept up in the movement of change... one has been in politics for a long time, and one is a master of the media and sound bites," said Malins.
Washington D.C. has certainly be a hot spot this year, since Obama has been sworn into office its seemed to be the place to be for Hollywood. However, are fans ready for political humor like this in such tough times? Perhaps this kind of humor is exactly what we need, and if anyone can make it funny, Malins can.
No word yet on when or even if we might get to see this sitcom on the air. Stay tuned to TVOvermind for the scoop once it's announced.
