ABC Bidding on 'Old Christine,' Again

oldchristine-toabcFor those of you who might not be aware, "The New Adventures of Old Christine" is on the bubble for renewal.  The CBS comedy, staring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Clarke Gregg, and Wanda Sykes, amongst others, has struggled with its ratings this season (as well as last season) and at a network like CBS, where very little programming suffers from low ratings, that isn't a good sign.  But 'Old Christine' can rest a little easier tonight, as Michael Ausiello reports, that ABC has made a bid to acquire the comedy sitcom should CBS decide to cancel the show.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus didn't seem to mind which network her show was on, saying, "I don't know.  I want a pick-up, period."  Though she went on to say that she was "confident" about a CBS renewal.

ABC has been on fire for this show for some time now, as many may remember that last year they also made a bid for the series, though at the last minute CBS decided to keep the show for an additional season.

It's still unclear what chances the show has for another season.  Ratings website TV by the Numbers uses a renewal index to predict the chances a show has for a return each season, and its based on the prized 18 to 49 demographic numbers.  CBS, as a network, averages 3.9 million viewers 18 to 49.  'Old Christine' averages 2.68 million viewers in the same demographic.  According to TV by the Numbers, this is bad.  Any time a show is averaging less than the network average, its bad.  However, ABC's average 18 to 49 demographic is 2.7 million, which makes 'Old Christine' a very nice fit, ratings wise, for the Alphabet network.  It's obvious why they're interested, but only time will tell what CBS will do with the show.  Do you think it should be canceled? Or is ABC a better fit?
