I'm almost loathe to give Perez Hilton the publicty, but since this whole thing with the Miley Cyrus potentially underage, private parts-showing photo is ongoing, I figured I might as well give you a bit of an update.
It looks like Miley and her camp have decided not to press charges against Hilton. There's still the question of whether the police will charge him with child pornography, but Hilton alledges that the photo was a fake, and has been insisting this ever since the story broke a few days ago and the public cried out against him linking to a photo that apparently showed underage Miley without any underwear while exiting a car.
ABC doesn't much care about "fake" photos or not, because they've pulled The View ads from Hilton's website as of Wednesday. A network source told MSNBC that:
“It’s not a matter of whether you like (Lavandeira) or not, it has to do with the morality of the issue. Miley is a minor, period. There are ethics involved in running an ad on a site that potentially violated the rights of a minor, and that is what the conversation is about at the network level."
Hilton, meanwhile, struck back by releasing a statement through Entertainment Weekly and stated:
“I find it odd that an advertiser would choose to pull an ad off my site because the photo in question, which was not pornographic and showed a fully clothed Miley Cyrus, was not posted on my website or even linked from my site. I look forward to addressing this and all of the inaccuracies about me being perpetuated when I appear on Joy Behar’s HLN show this evening.”
This isn't the first time the blogger has been in the middle of a controversial and public situation. In the summer of 2009 Hilton and the Black Eyed Peas' tour manager got into an altercation in Toronto because Hilton had apparently directed a gay slur against BEP's will.i.am and the tour manager got involved. Hilton immediately took to Twitter after the event to claim that he had been assaulted and ask for help in filing a police report.
Naturally, everything is played out in the media these days. Hilton apparently posted this photo of Miley, she called him an idiot, then he released statements and then there's more statements on top of that. It looks like Miley just wants to move on, which is actually pretty mature of her, and has decided not to comment further on the situation.
In the meantime, we'll have to see if Hilton gets more blacklash from advertisers. Because me posting this article (and those of you who are reading it), are just feeding into the publicity. I can admit this. And some people may simply say "bad press is better than no press at all" (this is also the motto for the Heidi and Spencer School of How to Be Famewhores). Where Hilton might actually hurt is in the wallet.
I'm hoping this is all I'll ever have to say on the subject :)
I didn't even know there was a picture controversy. I despise the man, so when I saw a piece about him on the news last night, I turned it off. If the pics can be construed as kiddie porn, I hope they throw the book at him.
