At least once a week, I publish a story here that just seems insane enough to not be true. I always end up checking multiple sites to make sure this is real, and then I just got for it. This week, the weird news is that ice cream icons Ben and Jerry have come up with two new ice cream flavors that are based off SNL sketches. While I wont mention their last SNL flavor, I will say it was based off a Alec Baldwin bit and was genius. This time, not so much.
The first flavor in the mix is Gilly’s Catastrophic Crunch. A combination of chocolate and sweet cream ice creams, with caramel clusters, fudge covered almonds and marshmallow swirl. You don’t know who Gilly is? Well, that is half the problem. The other half is the fact that it was a character played by the brilliant Kristen Wiig, though the character was, um, not that brilliant. Not a good idea for an ice cream flavor. Next up is not so bad.
The second flavor is called Lazy Sunday. Remember, based off the hilarious digital short and song with Andy Samberg? But the flavor makes little sense to me. Vanilla cake batter ice cream with chocolate and yellow cupcake pieces and a chocolate frosting swirl. I know they mention cup cakes in the song, but they also mention Red Vine and Mr. Pib. How about a soda and licorice flavor? That too edgy for you guys?
