Bill Murray On Playing It Straight to Charlie Rose

Bill Murray is the man. More than a man, he has become an image representative of modern man. A sort of “everyman” who is anything but. And it is safe to also assume that most of the world loves Bill Murray. He just has proven to be both a super star AND someone who is approachable by anyone, and you just do not usually see that in modern Hollywood. Well, recently Murray sat down and talked to amazing interviewer Charlie Rose. He talked about a lot of things, but one thing stood out. How Murray plays the “everyman.”

Before anything else, I just want to say: if you don’t watch Charlie Rose, you are missing the best interviews. He is just miles above most other interviewers, and doesn’t need wacky guests and a band playing behind him to prove this. Want to see just how good of an interviewer he is? Check out the above video.

A lot of people wonder if Bill Murray has made the conscientious choice to go from funny guy to the guy who can star in anything, from funny to drama. He just points out that he started out doing funny movies because that is what would get offered to him. He started branching out into drama because those movies started recruiting him. He only takes the movies he likes and believes in, and doesn’t get weighed down by genres or classifications. Straight man or funny man, if he likes the script, he will take the chance. That pretty much sums him up.

Seriously, can someone write this guy his own weekly show? I don’t mean sitcom. I mean, just Murray being Murray? Man, I would watch that religiously.
