Rapper and actor Shad Moss, more commonly known as Bow Wow, has joined the CBS spin-off CSI: Cyber in a series regular role. Bow Wow will play “cyber-intrusion savant Brody ‘Baby Face’ Nelson,” according to CBS, who announced the news earlier today.
“Bow Wow is a gifted young actor who will have the responsibility, through his character, to set an example for young people who watch the show to ‘do what’s right’ even when you know ‘nothing but wrong,’” said Anthony E. Zuiker, creator of the CSI franchise, in a statement today. “It will be a redemption story and a cautionary tale all wrapped into one. The role of Nelson required someone with deep acting chops and off-the-charts smarts. Shad Moss is a unique talent that possesses both.”
Bow Wow joins Patricia Arquette (Boardwalk Empire, Medium), James Van Der Beek (Friends With Better Lives), Charley Koontz (Community), and Peter MacNicol (Numb3rs) as a series regular cast member. His past TV credits include Entourage, Moesha, The Steve Harvey Show, Smallville, and Ugly Betty.
CSI: Cyber was inspired by an April episode of CSI that dealt with the work of real-life cyber psychologist Mary Aiken. The series will focus on the FBI’s Cyber Crime Division, and it will be the fourth CSI television series to air on CBS, coming after the success of the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and its two previous spin-offs, CSI: Miami and CSI: NY.
No official premiere date has been given for CSI: Cyber yet, but CBS will most likely debut it at midseason in early 2015.
