CSI’s spin-offs haven’t had too much luck lately with CSI: Miami cancelled in 2012 and CSI: New York axed in 2013, but the original is still going strong after 14 years.
Now, CBS is prepping for a new attempt, one focused on a new type of crime for the technology era. From the NYPost:
“The new series will explore technology and center on special agent Avery Ryan, who is in charge of the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI in Quantico, Va.”
That’s right, CSI: Cyber! God, I hope they think of a better name than that.
I’m not sure how this is going to work. Cyber crime isn’t particularly interesting, especially when it’s onscreen, and I have to imagine they’d have to pull all sorts of completely ridiculous “hacker” nonsense in order to create more thrilling plotlines. Like what are they going to do, investigate Bitcoin laundering? Identity theft? It all seems like a bit of a stretch. We’ll have to wait and see if this actually comes to pass.
