NBC has given official season-length pick ups to new shows, Community and Mercy and returning show, Parks and Recreation.
“We are very pleased with the critical and audience reaction to our wonderful new comedy ‘Community,’” said NBC entertainment president Angela Bromstad. “The cast and producers are delivering a first-rate, quality show that is very promising as the newest of NBC’s first-rate Thursday-night comedies.”
About “Mercy,” Bromstad added: “This drama has found a dedicated audience and continues to build in the ratings. We've seen future episodes, and we're confident ‘Mercy’ can be a strong player for us."
Regarding Amy Poehler's "Parks," Bromstad said, "‘Parks and Recreation’ has proven to be a steady performer for us on Thursday nights and gets better with every show.”
The ratings of all three shows have been moderate, but NBC seems willing to give them a chance:
"Mercy" has averaged a 2.1 rating, 5 share in adults 18-49 and 7.8 million viewers and has boosted the time period 37% compared with the network's performance in the time period last season. "Community" has averaged a 2.6 rating, and 5.7 million. Though it debuted last season, "Parks and Recreation" was brought back for 13 episodes this fall and has averaged a 2.1 and 4.8 million.
Still no word on whether Trauma will be picked up for a full season.
NBC has Parenthood and Day One on deck as mid-season replacements, although Day One will be aired as a six hour mini-series. Chuck will be returning (likely in the mid-season) and there has been some speculation that it may replace Trauma if it is canceled, although there has been no official word on that.
