Just last night, American Idol winner David Cook’s brother Adam passed away while at his house in Terre Haute. He had brain cancer and had been battling it for 11 years before stopping his medication this year when it was no longer helping him. He was in the care of his wife, Kendra, and hospice nurses. While only 37, he had a fruitful life with his family and work. Adam had two children ages 7 and 6, and worked as a lawyer.
According to Julie Henricks, a friend of the Cook family, "He was so sick and so worn out he just made that decision. That was his choice. It was because he was just so tired," referring to Adam’s stopping of his medication.
A friend said that Adam died peacefully. Instead of bearing the agony of pain, at least Adam can now rest.
David was supposed to see his brother, and was on the plane when the news of Adam's death came. David last saw his brother just two weeks ago. Adam was with his loved ones when he died. His father, step-mother, wife, children, and friends were there for him.
Adam was known to be very supportive of David when in the show American Idol, cheering for him throughout the competition. David Cook beat his opponent, David Archuleta during the seventh season of the show and has gone on to record and release his first album.
David announced this sad news at the 12th annual Race for Hope 5K run in Washington, D.C. Adam is the inspiration behind David’s support of the event. The race will benefit a cure for brain cancer, hopefully avoiding these kinds of early deaths.
