Doctor Who’s Catherine Tate to Return to The Office

While it’s been over a year since we last saw Donna Noble on Doctor Who, actress Catherine Tate isn’t absent from our televisions. After a stint doing a play in London, she’s returning to the small screen — this time reprising her role from last year’s season finale of The Office.

Tate will return as Nellie Bertram, who was one of the potential replacements for Steve Carell’s Michael Scott. Since Tate was doing the aforementioned play, Nellie didn’t get the job — Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) did, while James Spader’s Robert California became CEO.

That’s not the end for Tate on The Office, though: the comedienne will return later this season when Nellie’s friend Jo (Kathy Bates) hires her on as a “special projects manager” who as a “far from professional” relationship with Spader’s California. That could go two ways: antagonistic or romantic.

Tate will join the series in the second half of the season. While I’ve never watched the American Office (I love its British predecessor too much to watch the remake), I might have to tune in just to see what Catherine Tate does on American television. You know, since we’ll probably never see Donna Noble again.

The Office will air its next episode, “Spooked,” on October 27.
